Halal Food Standard in Pakistan - Is there such a thing?

Just because you live in an Islamic country does not mean everything you eat has got to be halal.

I have been to Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Food bought from both places will have some kind of halal cerification i.e had gone through a Halal checking process.

Worryingly in Pakistan there is no such process or mechanism. With such a large number of foreign franchises opening in the major cities, there is a strong need for this process.

is there a food administration in Pakistan that monitors the food that gets sold? That should be the first priority so people are buying safe and hygenic food so atleast people don't get sick.

very long time ago I would sometimes go to some butcher mall?? where the meat will be hanging (no refrigeration). Is that safe?

with the foreign franchise thing ... they are probably buying the meat in Paksitan. I am not sure why Saudi Arabia has it as they are just Muslims there but I can understan Malyasia as there are many non muslims there and they also eat pork

A better question would have been "are there ANY standards in Pakistan?"

Dont ever go to a mass butchering site in Pakistan. Because the scenes you would see will not be pretty or Islamic in any sense of the word.

Geo did an 'expose' on the food vendors of Pakistan.

It was so bad that even my relatives in Pak were put off food for 5 mins!

Spot on. It leads to another question....are Pakistanis back home actually bothered that there should be any kind of standards for that matter?

One would be wrong to think all food available in Middle East is halal. Burger King, Pizza Inn, Domino's, Mc Donald's etc. certainly aren't, not even in Middle East, or so was I repeatedly told by people working in there themselves 9 years back.
