Sarfraz to file a case against board, Moin wants resignation of Nasim Ashraf!
KARACHI: Pakistan’s former Test fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz has flayed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for appointing former Australian cricketer Geoff Lawson as a new coach of the Pakistan cricket team. Talking to Daily Times here Tuesday, outspoken Sarfraz said the PCB succumbed to the player-power and did what the players ‘wanted’. “It is the victory of player-power,” he added.

Sarfraz, who has played 55 Tests and 45 one-day internationals for Pakistan, said in Pakistan cricket there were many big names who could have proved better choice. “Lawson does not have any international coaching experience. Despite this shortcoming, he has been given the coveted job,” he lamented. The former lanky fast bowler, considered as the pioneer of reverse swing, said soon he would file a case against the PCB for appointing a foreigner as the national coach and neglecting the talented former Pakistani Test cricketers.

Sarfraz gave the examples of Richard Pybus and Bob Woolmer. “Under their coaching Pakistan cricket, instead of going upward, went down the drain. And despite that bitter experience, the PCB has once again opted for a foreign coach.” Sarfraz also expressed surprise over the appointment of a bowler as the coach saying that the Pakistan team needed a lot of attention in the batting department. “Why do we have a fast bowler as a coach when we lose matches due to our batting flops? I can’t understand the logic. Next they will bring a foreign batting coach,” he maintained.

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad slammed the PCB’s decision and said a foreign coach could not be as patriotic as a Pakistani coach can be. “So it is useless to spend heavy amount on him.” Miandad, a veteran of 124 Tests and 233 ODIs, questioned why Lawson as the coach of the Pakistan team, why not Waqar Younis, Intikhab Alam and Wasim Akram? He said the country had seen the results of produced by the foreign coaches in the past. “And we have again committed the same mistake. Even if you want to hire a foreigner, then why not do it on merit? If merit is the benchmark then Dav Whatmore knows sub-continental teams better than Lawson,” said Miandad.

Whatmore coached Sri Lanka to World Cup glory in 1996 and guided Bangladesh to the Super Eights stages of the World Cup this year. But Lawson has no international exposure, having only coached a state side in Australia. “Even in his playing days Lawson was not one of the best and now he has been preferred over the established candidate, so I think merit was overlooked,” said Miandad, a vocal opponent of the foreign coaches.

Pakistan’s former captain Moin Khan also criticised the PCB for appointing a foreign coach. “PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf is responsible for this appointment. He should have taken a correct decision by appointing a former Pakistan cricketer as the coach of the national team,” said Moin, who represented Pakistan in 69 Tests and 219 one-day internationals. Moin said the PCB chairman had given a statement against the Pakistani coaches by saying that whenever a Pakistani coach was appointed the players start quarrelling with each other and the unity of the team was broken. “I think this is absolutely wrong and a disgrace to the Pakistani coaches,” he said. Moin demanded the resignation of the PCB chairman as he failed to run the board in a professional manner.

For all the times this b@$tard threatens to go to court, or is threatened to be taken to court, one or the other definitely needs to happen soon, so he can shut his pie hole once and for all.

Any members here interested in suing him? I am sure we can come up with a good enough case.

I have some thing interesting o tell you people and it was my own experience so i dont have any doubts about what i saw.

the venue was an airline office where the whole pakistan team was invited for a promotional campaign. this was just before th world cup of 1999. all the team members were present apart from wasim akram who was asking for rs. 200,000 as appearence money which airline refused to gve so he did not attend. actually the airline was sponsor of the worldcup and the assembly of players was part of the sponsorship deal so there was no question of extra payments.

what i saw there was most astonishing things in my life. Jawaid Mandad had been fired a while ago and i saw these players including MOIN KHAN congratulating and accepting congratulations on thier mobile phones. They were extremely happy on miandad's departure.

and what he is saying now!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

I don't nuderstand why people keep giving Sarfraz Bakwaas coverage. Pakistanis are such an immature and childish nation. We love conspiracy theories and rumour mongering. If we ignore such people eventually they will just cower in the corner and shut up. If we keep giving them attention they will keep barking.

Moin Khan should be behind bars, the low-life wife-beater that he is.

A very sloppy and lazy piece of journalism. Fancy forgetting to report what former Pakistan Test hero Mohammad Ilyas thinks about the appointment!
