Pakistan Idol Coming Soon, Geo TV

Sindh High Court on Friday restrained a local TV channel from airing the “Pakistan Idol” programme in a Rs.50 million lawsuit filed by M/s Independent Media for injunction on its franchise right.

The plaintiff submitted that it has acquired franchise right to air the localized version of the programme “Pakistan Idol” from its owner Freemantle Media for broadcast in Pakistan.

The plaintiff’s counsel Mohammad Ali Mazhar contended that his client has invested millions of rupees to acquire the right to air this programme, which is also being aired in 43 other countries, but the defendant encroached such mark and idea which was actually the plaintiff’s right.

The counsel expressed the fear that the defendant (Fortune Marketing) was trying to infringe such rights and it appeared that it may first air the program on August 13. He sought interim injunction restraining the defendant from telecasting the program in question.

SHC’s single bench granted interim injunction restraining the defend
ant from telecasting the program till next date of hearing.
First, read these news in today's The News

In the above news, M/s Independent Media is the marketing firm for Geo TV network while Fortune Marketing is for Din News, Punjab TV and Star Asia (don't confuse it with Star TV Network).

See the following PEMRA's document to know about the marketing firms of different TV channels:

I think the judges are basically there to give some entertaining comments. Better judge will be a producer probably because they sell the artist. It is the people who decide and judge who is better

Sajjad Ali is a good choice.
Abrar ul Haq is good but he should NOT be a judge in this kind of competition
Hadiqa Kyanis isn't all that bad at all.

I think one of them should be someone like Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan.

I think for certain shows you have to make deals with the creators to make a version in their market. I think the Idol started with British show and went to USA. Same probably for Who Wants to be a Millionaire or it could have started in USA and went other places

But all these nominations people are making can these people talk, entertain, are bold enough to critisize and give good input. They might be good singers but that is not all that the show requires. Location might be another issue plus this shouldn't be used as a platform for the current artists to make themselves more popular. The focus of the show should remain on singers and not the judges. It should not become because this artist judge said this then it is correct or people waiting for the artist/judge to say something because they are such big fan. There is some influence but in the end people decide

Junoon's singer might be good as he has/had a talk show. Alamgir or Zohaib Hasan from old school pop era. The guy who produces for EP and Call can be another one. If Sohail Rana is alive then him

I would like to see some Qawals, Naat or Ghazal singers in the judge panels rather than some sexnpistols wannabes. If the name of the show is pakistan idol than they should concentrate on Pakistani music.

I bet most of the songs will be bollywood.

Simon Fuller can create umpteen shows without any hesitancy and he can be sure as hell that his shows will be 'inspired' in other countries too.

sahi bole yaar. Though anu malik is masala but he really makes me crazy. I just hate him seeing as a judge.

Also with so many reality shows, there is a scarcity of judges. Atleast I am bored of the comment of the judges.

"Aapki aawaaz bahoot badia hai, but thoda sa energy kam lagaa mujhe. ek do jagah thoda sur se bhatak gaye aap".

huhhh..... some of the one album singer who have become judges just keep saying the same line.

Anyway, stopped watching these programs since last year. I wish this doesn't happen for pakistan idol.

Any program that judges singers by public vote will fail to understand our musical traditions. Public voting rewards performance and not music. Our singers are singers. They are not performers. Public vote will go to performers but they have no future after winning the competition. Singing- performing is not an act that will appeal to our viewers. We have singers who sing, performers who perform and poets who write poetry. Our traditions allow them to combine in a way that is very much our own and is not seen in the west. We can have Jagjit singing Ghalib. We can have Hema dancing to a Lata song written by Gulzar. It is a very sub-continental tradition. An American copy cat program that tries to combine performing and singing will never capture that tradition.

Also, in india I found some amount of regional bias is also there. If someone from a specific reagion he makes most votes from that region.

South indian candidates don't get too much vote as very few people in south watch hindi programs. I can be wrong here.
