Top 5 Pakistani Batsmen/Bowlers in ODI's under Woolmer!

Below are the top 5 Pakistani batsmen and bowlers in ODI matches since Woolmer took over, these results dont include matches vs Zim and BD. Qualification is at least 10 ODI's played...

ODI Batting - Inzi and YoYo are at the top, with 2 players who were known as bits and pieces cricketers making up the remainder of the 5. For those wondering where Razzaq is, he's number 6 with an average of 28! Its good to see Salman Butt among the top 5 and hopefully he can only get better.

26 inns -- 1006 runs @ 45.73 avg ---- 76 HS -- 11x 50 -- 0x 100 ----> Inzamam
28 inns -- 1061 runs @ 42.44 avg --- 107 HS --- 7x 50 -- 2x 100 ----> Youhana
27 inns -- 1043 runs @ 41.72 avg --- 143 HS -- 10x 50 -- 1x 100 ----> Malik
20 inns --- 627 runs @ 33.00 avg --- 108 HS --- 2x 50 -- 2x 100 ----> Salman
22 inns --- 606 runs @ 28.86 avg --- 102 HS --- 2x 50 -- 1x 100 ----> Afridi

ODI Bowling - Once again the bits and pieces players dominate the top 5 Pakistani bowlers. I think this just goes to show that Pakistan is very lucky to have 3 such players who feature in the top 6 of both batting and bowling in ODI matches. If Bob and Inzi continue to build the team around these 3 guys then Pakistan will be a hard team to beat for years to come!

24 inns -- 45 wkts @ 22.71 avg --- 27.09 SR -- 5.1 Eco -- Rana
28 inns -- 34 wkts @ 32.18 avg --- 39.85 SR -- 4.8 Eco -- Razzaq
25 inns -- 29 wkts @ 33.97 avg --- 42.21 SR -- 4.6 Eco -- Afridi
18 inns -- 17 wkts @ 34.94 avg --- 44.12 SR -- 4.3 Eco -- Malik
13 inns -- 13 wkts @ 38.46 avg --- 43.69 SR -- 4.7 Eco -- Akhtar

Why are you excluding matches against Bangladesh. They have beaten both World Cup finalists ;)

Only 3 of the batsmen and 1 of the bowlers have truely world class returns, but the team plays like one, which offsets the lack of great individual returns

Malik and Afridi have been brilliant as all rounders. The batting was been good too. But in the bowling we lack one more star bowler. Rana's record has been brilliant. But he needs someone to support him and take wickets from the other end as well. The answer lies in Shoaib Akhtar, Shabbir Ahmed, Mohammed Sami or Umar Gul. Once we find that one bowler who can support Rana as an opening bowler, then we will have a formidable ODI team.

Shabbir has not played under Woolmer for a substanial time, only in the videocon trophy and asia cup, which he did pretty good. And also in the West Indies which he did well too. I still feel Shabbir is one of our best bowlers, chucker or not, but he just needs proper guidance, if he can get that, he will become one awesome bowler.

He did very well by himself when JAved was coach, and Javed does next to no work on the bowling, so it is was very pleasing to see a youngster like himself come through on his own. Now seeing what Woolmer has done to Maliks, Afridis, and Ranas bowling, imagine what he can do to Shabbir with some good substanial time.

A few points to remember are that Afridi is improving his batting and is averaging 35.60 in 2005 so far. Also Razzaq's bowling is coming along nicely and its only a matter of time he gets his batting form back.

Even Malik is ahead of Sami.
