Official PPL Rulebook
The official PPL rulebook (thread) is finally here and all those interesting in participating should read this twice before joining in. The rules are based around those we came up in the PPL rulebook (suggestions) thread.
If there are any additional suggestions from members then please post them but don’t expect them to be added. If one of the managers feels the rules are incorrect then please tell as this is an ongoing process and not the final deal. Selection Rules • Yousuf Rule: Players with ridiculous bowling averages can’t be selected as this ruins the game and basically rigs the game. These players can be selected purely for their batting but their bowling average will be changed to 99.99 prior to the tournament. Same goes for batsman with ridiculous batting averages. • Each PPL team has to select players who have participated in more than 25 international games during the draft. • Each PPL team will get one chance to select a player who has played less than 25 international games but no more than that will be accepted or permitted. • Drafting order is decided through a fair process or drawing teams in a hat by one of the managers prior to the tournament. (It is agreed that this is a fair process and no one will question the integrity of the person doing it if their team is chosen last). On-Field Rules: • Each team is allowed to field 5 International players or less in their playing XI. The rest of the players will comprise of Pakpassion members. • Each game will be a T50 match. Each bowler is allowed to bowl 10 overs. • If there is a tie then it stands at that. There is no super over or bowl out because these things are not possible to simulate. • Team needs to be posted by the managers of the teams playing on that day. The teams will have to be posted by 3:00 GMT (This is not a confirmed time so check in with everyone before the game). • If teams are not posted in time then the playing XI from the previous game will be used. If the team isn’t posted for the first game then any member of that team will be allowed to select the final XI. If no member shows up then the person simulating picks the team by default. Averages rule: • Averages of players will be recorded by each manager for their respective teams after every game. These averages have to be updated otherwise it ruins the game. Behaviour Rules: • Complaining is not tolerated and if it is to be done then it should be done professionally. An official complaint can be launched and the managers will get together as a jury to decide how to solve the problem. • No abusive behaviour will be tolerated in any thread related to PPL. This is a family forum and any derogatory words/phrases should be left off these forums. Two warnings are allowed and after the third transgression the member will be removed from his/her team’s next game. So folks these are the rules for the upcoming PPL season. These are all open for changing if someone feels they are incorrect. Please just post in this thread and we will make the change. Last edited by kingusama92 : 5th December 2009 at 15:59. |

One suggestion (not a rule per say) when a match involving your team is going on, if you can try and be online during the commentary thread so that it can be interesting rather then completely dead and the scorecard just put up. We'll hopefully try and make this fresh PPL better then last time! |

Absolutely agree with you. Last season the attendance was quite bad. Barring the semis and the finals. It would be nice if all team members show up to support their team. Don't have to be there for the whole game but at least show up. |

Usama. Thanks for that.
You made a little mistake there. The matches are not going to be T20 because CricSim doesnt allow less than 25 over per match. They will either be 50 or 40 overs depending on which is more popular on PP. Other than that, every thing there is bang on. Next step, new teams and allocating managers for them..... |

Well, we know that one team is going to be Karachi Kings. Two more, Usama you can come up with some city names.
When we have the other two team names ready then we can start pitching for a manager to manage a team. |

Preferrably I would like teams from Test playing nations.
EG. Kolkata Blasters, Jamaican Jets. Something like that. I know these two are rubbish. |

What about the London Lions...it fits in well with the whole english 3 lions thing as well.
If the two first letters dont have to be the same then it could also be the London Dynamos. |

Hasan, would you like to manage the Lahore Lions team? I'm offering this to you before the thread for managers for the new teams is made.
You need to: Be a regular poster on PP Oblige with all the rules in the PPL rule book Have enough free time to calculate team averages and post teams Participate as much as you can in the match thread If I have missed anything out Usama, please add it to the list. |

I presume you mean the London Lions, and yes I would very much like to take this on. I have already gone through the PPL rulebook and will be doing so again. I am going to Dubai & Pakistan in around a weeks time. Im leaving on 30th November and coming back on the 28th of December. However I will have internet access wherever I am and I will therefore be able to dedicate the necessary time for this if you do start during these dates. Thanks for offering this and i look forward to taking the lions to the top in our first season ![]() |

Excellent. If Boi agrees I think it's fine to make you the official manager of the London Lions.
Loved all the team names that were suggested. |

Hasan, thats great news if you're willing to manage the 'London Lions' side.
Two more teams to go, then we can start thinking about adding players to the new teams. Usama, can you please make a thread asking for people to manage the Sydney Sharks and Karachi Kings? Please make sure you put that criteria up on the thread so that the person knows what they are getting themselves into. (Add anything to it if you wish.) |

In the rules it says each bowler is only allowed to bowl 4 overs...how is that possible if its going to be a 50 over match?

It was proposed it be a T20 tourny (T25 taking into account cricsim only allows min 25 overs) but that was changed to 50 over games, Usama probably just forgot to change that bit. |

Love it. At least I know you actually took time to read the rules. You picked that up nicely.. what I did was I thought it was a t20 tourney but Boi corrected me later on. I guess I just changed the format in the rules but not the overs. |

We made a huge mistake by not pointing out that retired players are not allowed.
But then again, not many people helped out with suggesting rules.... |

I did have the retired players rule in mind.. but I didn't consider guys who were still playing first class cricket. Certainly something we should keep in the back of minds for next time. Agree with the part that a lot of guys didn't help out during the time we were asking for suggestions. |

The point of the matter is though, that the rules did not state anything about retired players. We scrutinised the rules before making our selections and other teams could have done the same. It is hugely unfair to change the rules after the selections.

You are absolutely correct. I don't think anyone is blaming you guys for making the pick. In fact I have stated to the other managers that the picks should be made again only if the two teams that chose Mcgrath and Mushtaq agree to pick again. As for the rule changing after selections.. We want to keep everything fair and equal and that's clearly not happening with the picks you guys made. However, it's all up to you guys. |

General Questions What is PakPassion Premier League? PakPassion Premier is a fictional cricket league just like Indian Premier League in real life. How the matches are played? All the matches are played on Cricsim - The Cricket Simulator. For more information visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cricket_Simulator How the simulator decides runs scored by a batsman/wickets taken by a bowler? For batsmen, it takes things like batting average of the batsman, bowling average of the bowler batsman is facing, condition of the ball, pitch type, and a random factor under account to decide the runs. Same way for the bowlers. How can I see a match? Every match will have its own thread. You can go to that thread and check out the commentary link to read live ball by ball commentary of that match. After the match has ended, the complete scorecard and commentary of that match is posted in the thread. How much time it takes for a match to finish? Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. I see you also play in a team. How do I know you are not cheating??? You have to believe me. I am a very honest person. How many times do you simulate a match? If it’s my team’s match, then I play a few tryout matches to decide a competitive XI, then I tell myself, “The next match I am going to play will be the official match. No matter what happens I won’t play the match again”. Then I play the official match and do not play the match again. Don’t you think that’s unfair? Absolutely not. You can also download Cricsim and pick the starting XI for your team the same way I do. Also, by doing above, it doesn’t mean that my team will win all the time. For example: Against Karachi Khanjars in the last season, I played a few tryout matches to see how I can win against them, then I selected my starting XI, and played the official match, which we lost, but I didn’t go to the previous results or played another match. What are the starting averages for new domestic players? If you are a specialist bowler: your average is 30 bowling, 15 batting if you are a specialist batsman: your average is 99 bowling, 35 batting Batting All rounder: 30 batting, 40 bowling Bowling All rounder: 25 batting, 35 bowling How to join PakPassion Premier League? Too late for that now. Wait for Season 6. Who won Season 1? Lahore Lightning Leopards. Karachi Khanjars were runner ups. Manager Questions What is the best strategy to pick my starting XI? For batting, it’s always better to open with your international players, because even if they get out cheaply, their averages will remain the same. Probability of getting out is higher when facing the new ball and good bowlers, and lower when facing the old ball and not so good bowlers, so if you want to increase someone’s average, then it’s better to send them at 5 or even lower. But that’s especially when you are playing on a normal or bowling track. On a flat track, it doesn’t make much difference. For bowling, their must be 6 bowlers in the team, because the simulator rarely picks only 5 bowlers. Sometimes it can even go beyond the 6th bowling option and picks up one of your batsmen to bowl an over or two if the team desperately needs a wicket or your main bowlers aren't helping much. If you are playing on a flat pitch, then make sure that your bowlers don’t have an average of 80 or else they can go for a lot of runs!!! Fast bowlers don’t take many wickets with the old ball, especially on flat and normal tracks, so it’s always good to have a spinner in your team. What is the difference between an international player and a domestic player? International player’s average remains the same throughout the league. Domestic player’s average fluctuates depending on his performance. How many international players can be in the starting XI? Max are 5. How many ODI’s an international player needs to play to be eligible to play in the PakPassion Premier League. 5 ODI’s/10 List A matches One of my international players has played more than 5 ODI’s, but his averages are poor, because he didn’t get a consistent run in his team, but he has potential and I want to play him in my team. Can I use his List A averages? Yes. But you can’t do the opposite (Using someone’s ODI averages, because their List A averages are poor, and they have played less than 5 ODI’s). |
