Congratulations India on historic win to clinch No.1 Test spot

Well with this win India joins South Africa at the #1 spot. We will certainly enjoy while it lasts

The next Test series we'll play will be against Bangladesh away from home. Then in February, South Africa will visit us for 3 Test matches and 5 ODI matches.

Well first of all congratulations to India for winning the test match and for becoming the number one team. Even if India stays at this level for few days or weeks still it is an honor. Lets see for how long India can hang on to this title.

I think becoming the worlds number 1 team is one thing and becoming a champion team is something totally different. So far India has played good cricket but I dont see them being a champhion team or the team to beat. India must win series home and abroad on consisting basis to prove themself to be the best team.

The two most important and difficult tests that will prove the caliber of our team will be the two Test and ODI series scheduled against South Africa next year. S.A will tour us for 3 Tests and 5 ODI's in February, and we'll tour them for 3 Tests and 5 ODI's in December.

If we can do well in both those series, no fan can point a finger at us and question our abilities.

quite frankly , its still not quite settled whos the best team in the world yet ..our performance in the past couple of years both home/away have been at par with SA and Aus..so the top ranking is somthing we deserve & also nice cos this is our first time .

we have to win series in SA and Aus , till then its not really clear cut .

Of course we have. Bangladesh played their first Test match against India at their home. Then in 2007, we toured them for a full Test and ODI series.

Just caught the highlights on Sky - they are saying that India is NOT No.1 - they have to win the next test match to secure that slot.

In all honesty.... India had meteoric growth for 2 yrs. In Tests and ODI they were really really good. But now this victory comes at a time when the downward spiral has begun and yes its an honor and deservedly so. But i dont think it will last long.

We are light years behind the top 5 test teams though. Hope to make it in Top 5 inshaAllah by the end of this season.

Just caught the highlights and a dominant performance fully deserving of a win.

Think I heard Sehwag on the stump mic teasing Mendis when he came to the crease and offering him money to hit a boundary like Murali.

Bit unnecessary in my book with the match pretty much won and a tailender in.

Maybe it was in jest but sounded a bit arrogant to me.

What downward spiral? We lost one ICC tournament where one fo the critical matche swere washed out and we lost to Australia at home where some matches were really close. Hardly a downward spiral

How about we just congratulate them rather then nit picking because it's India who won?

Congratz to India for a great performance. They played this test match perfectly from beginning to end.

Congratulation India.

But I feel the toss won them the match here. Why don't they just prepare decent pitches? If India is the No.1 side in the world, there should be no need to produce just batsmen friendly wickets, or toss wins match wickets. India may be winning, but they are killing interest in Test cricket, so they may not last.

Btw, I am not playing down India's achievement. It is phenomenal. But the need to produce so biased wickets is uncalled for (their batsmen played superb in N.Z. and vs Aus away, why not produce those sort of wickets?)

But still, I think Aus is the best test team around. With S.A. second.

Congrats India, well deserved for the last couple of superb years that they have had. It will be interesting to see how the rankings change when the next wave of more challenging test series roll around though.

Rankings and stats are as meaningful as the 9-12 record against us or the 36 test deficit in wins/losses you have.

The past is going to come back pretty fast, Laxman will go, Dravid will go, Tendulkar will go, then youll spend another 50 years rebuilding, only this time referring to the 'past' as a glorious phase when you won a handful of tests.

How do you live in the past by rubbing India's victories over Pakistan in world cup matches? Indian fan always pick and chose. Past becomes relevant when it is to their advantage. Enjoy your 100 wins after so so so many tries. you deserve it.

The past is going to come back pretty fast, Laxman will go, Dravid will go, Tendulkar will go, then youll spend another 50 years rebuilding, only this time referring to the 'past' as a glorious phase when you won a handful of tests.

That's to be seen. In the meanwhile, hope you enjoy your heart out watching India at #1 in ICC Test rankings if we manage to win the next Test

My post was to that newbie and his hilarious claim that rankings mean nothing, giving past records as the reason for his statement.

As I said, pick and chose to fit your needs Just kidding. They deserved the win. And of course they seem very dominating. Pitch was the same for both of them and India capitalized. Well done.

What? Tendulkar? Retire? These two words don't belong in the same sentence! Didn't he just recently say he wants to play on until the 2015 worldcup and keep piling on more & more centuries?

On the OP, congrats! I thought india would have already gotten their 100th test win (as they play more test matches than Pakistan in recent decade)

He will keep on playing till all his records are unreachable or ponting retires, whichever comes first. If any player who plays for individual record, it has to be Tendu. With the support of 1 billion people, no one can make him retire.

You need to mend your ways. As a Pakistani fan you can call your players anything you want. But you don't have the right to outright disrespect a player from another country. You don't see us Indians keep commenting on your players and insulting them. Would you like it if we Indians insult your legends like Akram, Imran, etc ? We'd expect the same from you. Please don't repeat it again. I wouldn't have said it if you did it for the first, but you have done it for quite a few times now, and I needed to tell you that.

Congrats to India! They are certainly nowhere near number 1 but they are a much improved side.

Indians do the same, please don't go there. You may not. However, my post was not insulting in anyway. I stated what I felt. Ponting is the only closest one to break his record, and Tendu will not like that. What is insulting about it. Be reasonable please

It was a humble request from me. Nothing can be more insulting for a player in a team game being accused of playing for himself.

Sorry you feel that way. It wasn't meant to be insulting. As I said, My fovorite player is Dravid. I see him playing more for the team. Thanks

But thats the fact....choker has played for his personal glory all his career ...he is not a match winner like Inzi or Ponting....

I will also add Dravid to it. But Indian always get offended if they see or hear anything negative about Tendu.

Would it be terrible if I extended your list of selfish players by one? I would add Mohammad Yousuf to it.

Legends are remembered by their contribution in team wins. Records only become stats for their own glory if major team wins are not attached to it.

Congratulations to India - getting the number 1 spot certainly will be an achievement. I think its pretty close at the top between India, SA and Aus - all are capable of beating one another, makes a welcome change to when Aus dominated

need to win the next one cos even if we draw that , we will lose points to SL who are a lower ranked team to us ..which will mean we slide below SA .. ..but , its also true that we are tied with SA currently
