Humorous cricketing anecdote
Posted by bongs on ICF:
A mate told me this one, it was one Mike Watkinson told during an after dinner speech. It was about 1997 ish and Wasim Akram, along with Watkinson, were still playing at Lancashire. One day they were all getting ready to play a charity match against the Southampton Football Club youth team. No-one would take it too seriously, just a charity mess about. So, just before the game starts, with Southampton batting first, Wasim gets a phone call telling him two things, firstly, he's been stripped of the Pakistan captaincy and seondly, he's being investigated for match-fixing. As you can imagine, he is FUMING and demands the new ball. The opening batsmen, these 17 year old footballers, are filling their pants with Wasim stood near the sightscreen raring to go like a rhinoceros, upset at his news somewhat. What they don't know is that he hasn't got the ball in his hand, the keeper's got it. Reluctantly, not to mention terrified, the young lad faces up to recieve the first ball and eventually Wasim comes steaming in at a million miles an hour from somewhere beyond the sightscreen. He goes through his action, with no ball remember. The batsman never moves an inch and as a wind up the keeper throws it up in the air and shouts 'Howzat?!' The umpire says 'not out, he never hit that.', to which the batsman says 'I ****in did!' and walked off!! :-D |
