how series panned out.
Smith Vs Strauss--> Smith Petersen Vs Cook--->>Pietersen Amla VS Trott--->>Amla Kallis VS Pietersen---->> Kallis Duminy VS Bell-->Duminy Rudolph Vs Bairstow----------------->> Bairstow Devilliers Vs Prior ->>Prior Steyn Vs Andersen--------------->> Steyn Morkel Vs Broad-->> Morkel Philander Vs Bresnan -----Philander Tahir Vs Swann--> Tahir Really disappointing stuff from England. They were no match to Saffers. The gap between the both team was really wide. South Africa outplayed England in every department heck even Tahir out bowled Swann. In the hindsight we can say 3 match series was about right.

Well, at the beginning of the series I predicted:
1st test: big SA win 2nd test: draw 3rd test: SA to choke and England to equalise. Two out of three ain't bad, and while the Prior-Swann stand was on I was still predicting the latter! But the difference between these Saffers and some their countrymen who have come to the UK is that they seem to have immunised themselves against the Choke Virus. The hand of Coach Kirsten has been crucial I think, as is the presence of both Amla and Philander. Rare to see England outplayed in all three departments as even in the UAE setback they were bowling well. Can SA now go on to dominate as the Windies and Aussies did for long periods? I think their spinner will have to improve for that to happen. Kallis will retire soon so that will unbalance their attack. A word on Kallis. I have been highly critical of him in the past, calling him a stats monster who performs against minnows and folds against good teams. But his batting has become more reliable under pressure, and he keeps chipping good batters out, while remaining the world's best current slipper. He seems to get better and better with age, so I'm forced to accept that he is a great all-rounder in the mould of Hammond and Sobers. |
