Pietersen fined following disciplinary hearing

The ECB announced that Kevin Pietersen today attended a disciplinary hearing convened by Hugh Morris, Managing Director- England Cricket and Andy Flower, England Team Director.

The hearing considered recent comments made by Pietersen on Twitter to be prejudicial to the interests of the ECB and a breach of the England player conditions of employment in relation to clauses regarding public statements.

Pietersen has been fined an undisclosed sum, part of which has been suspended for 12 months, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his England central contract.

The ECB are a pretty lenient bunch. I wonder what the comments were? Probably something IPL related?

It was this

"‘Can somebody please tell me how Nick Knight has worked his way into the commentary box for the Tests?"

Very harsh by the ECB. He's only stating what most fans feel.

LMAO. Kevin you naughty boy. Pretty funny.

Apparently Knight made a few snide comments at KP in an interview last season and KP doesn't rate him.

I think it's fair game. If Knight can criticise KP then why not the other way round, KP was only doing his job too? The only issue here is the ECB's link with Sky Sports being their main broadcaster, which has compelled them to make some sort of stand. An undisclosed fine, suspended too is not even a punishment. The ECB probably agree with him as do most fans.

All the same, it gives ECB more credibility if their players are reined in somewhat on twitter and the like. I've seen gaming teams kick players/casters out of for offensive tweets and in game chat, and if they're being that professional, you'd expect a real sports board to try to maintain some semblance of professionalism.

Lol KP being naughty. The fine probably wasn't even that much, oh KP and twitter! Not a big deal though.

Can someone tell me how South Africans have made their way into the England national team for these tests. Ridiculous. If you're going to question how an English former international cricketer has become a commentator on English cricket, perhaps you should be looking closer to home, and figure out which situation is ridiculous and which is not.

Not really.
KP is an aggresser. It's so obvious that he will be liking 20/20 more than playing test. And also earning some $ on the other hand.
I reckon that's why he tweets all these stuffs.

English cricket and its snooty prejudiced eggshell walkers don't like it when a Flintoff or indeed a Pietersen presents problems and tensions within the game as they really are. We need more of these characters to give us honest assessments, candid interviews and of course a few giggles.

Knight isn't that bad. Cork is pretty poor. I personally think Knight's comments about KP recently and KP's form in Tests have bought the snide comment by the latter.

ITs time for KP to apology for his injurious act. I'm sure ECB will admit it positively; after all KP is still a provisional Englishman and it’s not so easy. With this example ECB alerts others to be in order too.

What qualifications do you need to be commentator? Tony Cozier and CMJ are excellent commentators with a wonderful historical perspective of the game and i dont think they played at the higher levels. Compare them to Ravi(pay me enough and i will commentate to order) Shastri and there is world of difference.

England players are not allowed to broadcast their opinions, under contract. KP has being fined for 'bringing cricket into disrepute'.

Knight is an inoffensive chap. But he is an inoffensive chap with a modest Test record who when Pietersen's one-day form was at its lowest, questioned his right to a place in the team. Pietersen respects stardom and celebrity and seems oblivious to the fact that Knight was one of the most effective England one-day players of his time. It is curious how long this has rankled.

Nick Knight is paid by Sky to commentate, which he did. Pietersen is paid by the ECB to play cricket, not to pass judgement on the commentators picked by one of the ECB's main funders.

Btw why is it that everytime Pietersen is fined the amount is always undisclosed?

KP was tweeting shortly after play today that he was gutted about Delhi losing in the IPL.

Not tweeting that he was gutted that England couldn't bowl out West Indies today.

Interesting
