It's disappointing see Justin Gatling playing this and winning bronze! Should have been permanently banned. Wished Tyson Gay won that Bronze.

That is true. Much will be made in the British media and by the public that these games are special. They may well be but for many non-sport fans it is only because it is their backyard otherwise they would pay it as much attention as they normally do. The true test of any Olympic games is the number of new records and the organisational success.

i made that comment regarding the race only. The only thrilling thing about this race was that Usain won again which was very much expected. Last time around however, there was wayyy too much hype. People didn't know which 1 of Asafa Powell, Tyson Gay and Usain Bolt would win, it was that damn close and the way Usain won that race, my goodness

1988 and 2008 finals simply stand out.

I think it's going to be a while till we see anyone beating 9:58. It took a while to break Maurice Greene's 9:79.

Right now, the range has been between 9: 60-9: 70.

Only two men are under 9: 70 and one is under 9: 60. Means there is hardly a competition for Bolt.

And the only one who missed out [Asafa Powell] happens to be the guy who has timed less than 10 seconds more than anyone ever and missed out here due to an injury. Just goes to show how tough it is now and how Usain Bolt really is an absolute freak to be dominating in such a competitive era.

Bolt in a league of his own - he's near unstoppable and un-catchable during the last 50 metres. Just eats up so much of the track in so little time. Stride length and leg speed combined means no one really comes close. Thought Blake would get under 9.70 after clocking 9.75 at the trials, but not quite there yet. He will get better and faster though. Powell has had injury problems all year and it was a miracle that he got to London in the first place after nearly not being able to compete in the trials.

Gay - still the second fastest man ever at 100m - was coming back from injury and London came a bit too early for him. Gatlin was never in contention for Gold. He can dominate only if the race is at 9.8 pace.

The 200m should be a cracking one. Only last year did Blake run 19.26 - the second fastest time ever and only Bolt at the World Championships in 2009 has ran faster with a 19.19 clocking.

Gay is a warrior when it comes to championships. He's getting better all the time and ran a season's best in the final. He will be back and well next year at the World Championships, we potentially could have all three medallists going under 9.7 in Bolt, Blake and Gay.

Powell has always gone missing at major championships (stretching back to the Olympics in 2004) and now he's not even 100% these days. His days are numbered, which, for someone with a personal best of 9.72, is a real shame.

Not sure if that really was the case. This time around there was more doubt about whether Bolt was truely fit and there was a genuine contender in Blake. Hence there was no showboating.....he had to use every energy just to win.

In contrast last time I thought he was way ahead.....it was just a case of him against the clock.....hence the showboating.

Thanks - very interesting. Does show that Hines is the outlier - amazing performance for the time and it took 20 years to beat it. Could be the same with Bolt, but Blake is younger so may have a chance as he gets better.

Thanks - very interesting. Does show that Hines is the outlier - amazing performance for the time and it took 20 years to beat it. Could be the same with Bolt, but Blake is younger so may have a chance as he gets better.
Blake has a genuine chance beating 200m record. 100 m record by Bolt is quite ridiculous! He takes only 41 strides to finish the race others take around 44+.

Asafa Powell was/is still better runner than Blake (YB's only way his up, as he is young) but I would be thrilled if Blake actually beats any of Bolt's records.
