Budgie Advice

So I have been caring for my pets who happen to be budgies for quite some time now and we are quite close, so much so that the male budgie prefers to regurgitate its food for me instead of his female partner (disgusting but atleast he cares) They perch on my fingers and eat out of my hand and are content with the life they have. They are also the two cutest creatures ever.

The problem that I'm having is getting them to fly around and not bump into walls, windows (covered up) et cetera. I bought them when they were just a few months old and had their wings clipped so they have never had any flying experience.

Whenever I've tried to get them to fly, they freak out and hurt themselves by flying in to the aforementioned objects and obstacles. Any advice on how to train them would be welcome.

It seems you have a case of confused budgie. Your budgie thinks you are it's female partner and that it has super powers including the ability to fly through walls and windows. I suggest you take the budgie for a brain scan or alternatively, put up signs - e.g. BEWARE: This is a wall made of cement.

doubt many people on PP will have experience with budgies buddy. Though KingKhanWC is our resident bird expert and very popular among chicks

I know, I just didn't want to join those budgie forums. They were horrible.

i have always been a pet freak and while i don't keep birds anymore, i have some small experience. One of my Budgies was very similar to yours, when ever you would take it out its cages to fly around it went absolutely spastic.

So what i did was id leave the cage door open, and after a week they started exploring more slowly, but would rush back at their cage straight away if they felt scared

at the end of the day , if they grew up in a cage they get petrified when they are away from it, its better to get a baby and introduce it your house earlier.
