South Africa's Spin Bowler Issue continues..
South Africa is the best Test team especially the bowling unit as of now, but the Spin bowling has been their main weak point for long time. Today also fast bowlers did exceptionally when to restrict Pakistan to 33/4, but there was no support from spinners with old ball. Robin Peterson went for 85 in 19 overs without Wicket, almost 1/3 of runs scored in the first day.
Is it the pitches to be blamed or SA just don't have any test class bowler which is an essential ingredient to become a great test team?

Peterson was a major factor in SA relieving pressure on Pakistan. Pacers cannot bowl eternally, once a partnership develops you need spinners to come to the party.

That's why SA should persist with Imran Tahir as even though he can prove extremely inconsistent and expensive, he can take a few wickets. In addition, he is effective at removing the tail quickly. On the other hand you have R.Peterson who is a non-spinning spin bowler. Although it doesn't matter if SA plays a spinner at home because their pitches are not really receptive to spin bowlers.

Any day of the week, Peterson, Harris, mannequin, cadavers >>>> Tahir. Tahir is one of the worst bowlers to ever play international cricket. He is so bad he isn't even a minnow basher. Averages above 35 against ALL the countries he has played against. You would think he would dominate us considering our weakness against spin but he can't even do that.

south africa dont have a plan b, which is why they will never dominate like wi/aus
They are too one dimensional Kallis used to be a good to go to bowler but it seems like his alopecia has coincided with him starting to run in like abdul razzaq

Re: South Africa's Spin Bowler Issue continues..
Haha Kallis and Razzaq being compared. Btw grandpa Kallis looked fine bouncing out Azhar Ali and troubling Pakistan batsmen in first test.

Kallis was lethal in 2007 and he could still get more wkts then peterson even if he came in with his walking stick

They're one trick ponies though. Asian batsmen are called FTBs if they cant perform in tough conditions but people like Steyn are considered ATGs for bowling teams out with the new ball in South Africa. Johannesburg wicket was like you're playing on a damn mountain. As the going gets tough, the "tough" need to go. Steyn was obviously frustrated when he talked crap to YK, and then ran away as YK started to walk towards him. Wait till we face them in UAE where Steyn averaged 37 against us in the last series. Philander the trundler will go home crying.

S.A have never really had a top class test spinner and the conditions they play there home and domestic cricket in its very unlikely they will produce one going forward.

Just as you have to wait until both teams have batted to get a true assessment of the playing conditions, I'd wait until both teams have bowled. Let's see how Ajmal goes in the first innings.

I sometimes think they're better off playing another pace bowler

The Windies and Australia were extremely predictable. Bowling wise the Windies only had plan A. Plan A was so good however that only one or two individuals (such as Border) and no teams could deal with it. Richards was actually a poor captain for spinners. Australia had an extra bow to their string because we had a good spinner as well as a good pace attack. If McGrath didn't bowl Australia to victory then Warne would. |

Tahir would be a better option. Don't see PAK doing too well vs him
