Should we have played 2 spinners?

Look at the way the ball is turning on the 1st session on the 1st morning.

I think we could have easily played Ajmal here along with Kaneria.

Gul coulld have gotten some well earned rest as well.

Possibly, Malik and Farhat should bowl here though, since Pak have not, heck give Azhar Ali a bowl too, try something.

No! Why the over-reaction after 1 session of cricket?

Its a long summer and pakistan arent going to bowl like they did at headingly all the time.

Plain and simple if Pakistan had shown more discapline and pitched ball up they would have had a few more wickets here!

^ Yeah, part timers is all well and good

But Ajmal is relentlessly accurate and would posed a different challenge to the batsmen. Not to mention ofcourse, he would have played a huge part in keeping the run rate manageable as well.

What's the point when we have fielders standing at boundary even when ball is turning like this?

Its not a reaction to the way our quickies have bowled

Its a reaction to how the pitch is playing
Isn't it a norm to play 2 spinners in the sub continent.
Well even there the ball doesn't turn so much on the first morning, so surely 2 spinners here was a big option wasn't it?

Trent bridge has offered more for seamers then spinners all season.

No its not the norm to play 2 spinners in your team unless you are India and have crap seam bowlers.

Also when all 3 seamers played well at headingly why would you drop one for a spinner?

So some patience and stop being over-reactive so early in a match!

Yeah you make a point there
Trent Bridge has been historically favourable to the quickies, but there hasn't been extravagant seam movement today, just more or less in the air.

But I guess, given the ground's history, it was too risky to play 2 spinners
But in Hindsight, 2 spinners would have been better on this track

Difficult one, can't really call it a huge blunder by Pakistan.
Would've been brilliant had someone predicted it would turn like this though

No way. Ajmal might offer control but I can't see him taking wickets.

People are getting a little carried away here, as usual. There's a little bit of slow tun, but if the conditions are overcast, this pitch will definitely suit seam bowling. Our bowlers were a little off this morning, but that can happen from time to time. These guys are class bowlers - they'll get it right eventually. We'll just have to be patient. I do think it was an excellent toss for England to win though.

Looking at Gul bowl for most part against the Aussies, dropping him would not have been in the minds at all. Malik and Kaneria can handle the spin duties well enough.

Shoaib Malik is the 2nd spinner. Anyway there is plenty of cloud cover to still encourage the faster bowlers.

Nope.

Malik can bowl, Farhat can bowl, Amin can bowl. we are good.

Reverse swinging gul would be key on this dry pitch.

our kuptaan also needs to put a man at silly point for him to put more pressure on batsman.

what pressure will an attacking field create when the spinner is giving 2 full tosses every over?

let him get his L & L sorted out, then we can think about attack.

As usual Kaneria bowls 2 good balls followed by a long hop or some other "hit me" ball.

I've been wanting him out of the side for a while now and hopefully more people now can realize why.

Ajmal would have been a much better bet atleast he offers some control!!

so kaneria continues his crappy ways, but some will say that he should be given another chance. And if this poor bowler gets to play ahead of ajmal, it shows what they think of him

They must be watching a different game brcause the Kaneria for Pakistan is attrocious against decent International teams.

He shoud have been dropped years ago.
