Is Hair Gel Haram?

I never bothered to check the ingredients of my current hair gel in fact, it's a hair spray. I'm using "got 2b glued blasting Freeze Spray"

I recieved a call today from my friend and he notified me that the got 2b hair gel/spray uses "Alcohol Denat" as it's one of the ingredient and therefore its haram.

I think every hair gel/spray out there uses alcohol. So does that make it haram?

most aftershaves, gels, sprays use alcohol, even hand lotions, so don't apply some before you eat

alcohol's in petrol too, so should we walk to the mosque instead or get a horse?

i'd like to know the answer to this too.

One more question: Does Hair Gel count as an impurity when performing a prayer?

Your not allowed to consume alcohol. It's not haram unless its intoxicating you. Alcohol is used in a lot of stuff, for example medicine.

dude as long as youre not eating it, what difference does it make?

anyway, alcohol is not prohibited, the substance that is is khamr, which means intoxicant. so if theres a substance that will make you drunk if you consume enough of it, then you are prohibited from having it in small doses. if youre planning on eating/drinking the hair product, and enough of it will make you drunk, then you shouldnt have any of it. but you probably shouldnt be consuming any of it anyway.

This is what really annoys me when some people (not you) just go over the top. No hair gel is not Haram, just because something has alchohol in it doesn't make it Haram...just don't eat it and you are fine

Got that.

Now, Does Hair Gel count as an impurity when performing a prayer?

The answer I found:

1)- Masah for wudhu will be valid if a person uses gel on his hair, as long as the effect of the gel is similar to that of oil upon the head .

2)- However , if the effect of the gel on the head is more thicker , similar to grease or lard [cooking fat] , then in this case the masah will not be valid.

It means, there should be better more important things you should be worrying about. Not hair gel.

Sorry for my political incorrectness but that's just a retarded answer. The brother is asking a question that has something to do about Islam.. he sure as hell doesn't want an answer saying "You should worry about better things."

It means that if the gel is so thick that it's created clumps and blocks of hair, then the water that you apply for masah may not reach the hair itself in which case you are not cleaning your hair during wudu. Imagine this to be a similar situation as nail polish on finger and toe nails.

Some gels contain pig-fat to add the stiffness, just check the ingrediants and you`ll be fine.

One opinion I read was that synthetic alcohol, which is a chemical used as solvent in many products including perfumes, is not Haram. Alcohol used in these products that derive from dates or grapes is considered unpure. Using it is not exactly haram, but you will need to wash it away and perform ablution before performing salah.
