pakistan's supersub in one days

who should be picked as a super sub. in my opinion it should be an all rounder. so which all rounder would u pick to be super sub.

1.mohammed hafeez
2.azhar mahmood
3.ashar zaidi mainly batsmen but can bowl gentle medium pace.
4.mansoor amjad
Other alternatives
5. imran nazir purely for batting
6. hassan raza
7. or a bowler like kaneria or umar gul

IN my opinion i would go for mohammed hafeez. his bowling is economical and his batting in 20-20 has been destructive

Bob has already said he'll use Afridi. Send him in as opener and let him make a quick 50 then sub him before he gets out or sub him on for bowling his leg breaks.

Mohammad hafeez maybe 20/20 but no way for a proper oneday game it would be madness!!

We got too many players trying to get into the team who would be used as the supersub and you are trying to get fringe players in there? I was hoping that this supersub rule would allow Kaneria a window to become a regular in the ODI squad. But it seems like we will still be using spinners like Malik and Afridi. A quality spinner makes a huge difference in an ODI game.

kaneria is not economical enough. he needs to have better control which will come with time

the balance of our odi side is pretty good as it is. Kaneria wont add much currently.

Why not?

I remember when Saqlain was an integral part of the ODI squad and he did wonders for the team. I think thats the thing Pak lacks the most, a quality spinner in ODIs. Malik and Afridi can't provide that role.

Give Kaneria a decent run. He has only played 12 ODIs. His performance isn't that bad in it. His economy rate is 4.41 and it would be significantly less if you take away his one innings of 0/76. Otherwise, these are his figures for teh twelve matches he has played.
0/43, 2/38, 0/16, 2/32, 3/31, 0/35, 1/37, 0/76, 0/48, 1/26, 1/45, 0/29
Some good performances in there and 8 matches have fairly economical figures. Give him more time. Give the guy some more chance before writing him off. He is considered one of the formost legspinners in the world in test cricket, surely that player must be able to perform well in ODIs

RH looks like Bob Woolmer still hasnt understood the rule, the rule states that once a player has been substituted he will be out of the match no comming back. What is the point of subbing him before he gets out he could have made a century and won you the game easily by setting a big target.

One of the PPer (cant remember his name) gave a very good suggestion regarding super sub of Pakistan he said that the super sub should be a batsman since our batting is a bit week. We play too many allrounders we go in with the ODI team which is regular and continue with it, if there is a batting collapse get the super sub batsman in and hope that he will revive your innings. If you get a decent score without the supersub then its great you dont need to have him anywhere.

I would have Azhar Mahmood or Mohammad Hafeez.

It would be stupidity to have Afridi as we need both his batting and bowling in ODIs , and if you put him as a supersub we will have only his batting or bowling.

I think for the current odi side, as suggested, it may be a good idea to have a specialist batsmen as a supersub. A solid and reliable batsman like Hasan Raza or Asim Kamal.

That is a good point.

England used Solanki and Prior to good effect...

I cant remember Prior playing in a match as a supersub.

You need someone who can hit out but also someone who can build an innings as well if you want the supersub to be a batsman.

Maybe he didn't play, but Fletcher did say they were going to use him as supersub...

Yeah its strange they didnt. For England Ian Blackwell would make a great supersub.
