If they were then that would have been the SOMKING GUN to charge them. Since they were released without charge then we can safely assume that the story is FALSE!

Shouldn't they have been charged by now then? I would think that's pretty irrefutable proof if it was needed.

I am not believing any of the 'breaking news flashes' anymore.

Not until I hear it as a formal statement by either the SY or the lawyer.

ITV seem late to the show.

The lawyer just denied any such occurrance. Scotland Yard didn't charge them, either.

Bunch of rubbish. They are just piggy backing on the news from earlier today.

maybe the key words are "large sum". Maybe it was just a few £50 notes ? In which case they are both right, but easily explainable.

According to the thread header it's "Sting Cash" which means it must be traceable to the NOTW piles of money spread on that table. You would like to think ITV know this to be the case before running the story.

Please stop this ignorance people! ITV have just learnt that the cash handed over by the News of the World was marked and has been recovered from SALMAN BUTT.

Yes there is no criminal charge, but only on a technicality. There is no doubt that money was handed over to Salman.

OK, even if true.

What English (note: not ICC) Law has been broken ?

Reporter gives money to Majeeed, who gives a large chunk of it to a player.

Which particular bit of the law was broken, especially if no bets were placed ?

"The NOTW Reporter wanted them to break the Law, they took his money, did not place a bet, and shared the money, and had a good laugh " could be a very good defence.

It could well be true, but they have muttered the same thing the Daily mail was saying.

Except The Daily Mail stated there were large sums of marked notes found in Butt's room.

ITV has taken out "large sums" and just left it at "sting cash found".

We'll see what happens.

Yes 'Sting Cash'. But depends upon the amount.
e.g Majeed could have started spending it, paying off debts, paying for hotel rooms, petrol...
Heck, you or me could even have some of the notes if he had started using the money!

No, anyone who watched the ITV news at 10 will tell you that ITV was very specific in saying that cash marked by the NOTW and passed onto Majeed was found on Salman Butt. Not Aamer, not Asif but Salman Butt.

My personal opinion is it's a scaremongering campaign to try and get the pcb and the pakistan players to make a false move. Especially because it was unravelled by the daily mail.

Yet they still bowled the no balls on the deliveries predicted by Majeed? So they set themselves up. Desperate much...

I have no idea what is happening TBH - but discrediting ITV because it is a crap channel doesnt alter the fact that their news supplier (ITN) is up there with the most highly regarded

Just because the criminal case been dropped does not mean the events did not take place paying someone to bowl no-balls is not a criminal offence as no bookies were de-frauded. It is definate an offence under the ICC code of conduct Butt is history!!

The only way any newspaper would find all this out without an official statement from the SY is by having sources working within the SY.

All newspapers have their own sources. Even a reporter on Dunya TV said today that they have sources within the SY. Now who is to say which source, if any, is telling the truth?

Too much speculation and leaking going on in this affair.

I reckon NOTW must have some deal with SY - to let them squeeze one more weekends worth of dirt on the players - make their sales, and then say, 'its all yours Old Bill'

A deal with a govt investigating agency ? They would be hauled off for obstruction of justice if they try to keep back evidence.
