Afridi advises Kamran to take a break

Pakistan One-Day International and Twenty20 skipper Shahid Afridi has advised wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal to take a break from Test cricket before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Akmal had a torrid tour of Australia earlier this year.

"I know Kamran (Akmal) might not necessarily agree with my suggestion, but I think he needs to start focusing on One-day Internationals and T20 cricket for which he is a class player," Afridi told Geo Super channel.

"I know he has struggled in recent matches because of which there is lot of pressure on him. But he has been working hard to improve his keeping, especially, against spinners. I think he needs to take a break," Afridi said.

Afridi pinpointed Zulqarnain Haider and Sarfaraz Ahmed as good wicketkeeping choices for Tests and limited-overs cricket in future as Kamran needed a break to relieve the pressure on him and to be fresh for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Afridi said he has no intentions of going back on his "emotional" decision to retire from Test cricket as he has lost the desire to play the longer format of the game. "I have no real desire to play Test cricket and the reason I lost this desire was because I was not selected consistently for Test matches," Afridi said. "As it is I have a busy schedule and I don't think I have the time for Test matches," he added.

The flamboyant all-rounder also made it clear that he and other senior players including Mohammed Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Akhtar had discussed the future and were keen to put the national team on the right track in the next two or three years before retiring. "We want to retire after making a strong team and leaving behind a legacy of some good players," he said.

sarfaraz needs to improve on his batting before he is selected, becuase pakistan's batting is not taht good, that they could have a keeper who can keep but not bat.

also worried about zulqarnains batting, becuase his average in list A is 15 :s

Who cares, he is going to say something whenever so might as well at least support his good statements. Kamran should take a break to save us, I mean himself from the stress...

I totally agree with him. He just needed to add himself to the list. For him it has to be permanent break. It's so funny a useless player/captain commenting on another useless/cheat player.

If those catches he dropped in Sydney were NOT on purpose then he should not be in the team as my mother could have caught those catches.

If they WERE on purpose, then he should never play cricket again.

Either way, it don't look good for him..

If Afridi wants to give Kamran advice, why doesn't he give it to him in person instead of through the media?

This is taken from Bolain Kia Baat Hai. He was asked a question to which he simply replied.

Afridi should target the 2015 World cup as his farewell to international cricket. At the moment he is still a youngster

Kamran akmal should be banned for lives....A cat with a trillion lives....he some how slips away every time he is in trouble and some how manages to come back into the team after dropping a billion catches...and one top of that he is a match fixer

even tim paine missed that easy stumping. the standard of wicket-keeping in international cricket has taken quite a blow. or maybe everyone has over-relaxed cuz they think no matter how bad we do, we can't be worse than kakkoo so we'll still look okay in comparison.

Good suggestion from Captain. Kamran should only play in ODI and T20.

If Kamran does not listen then selectors should give him a break from Test Cricket.

Sane advice from Afridi, but still would have liked him to keep team issues private rather than blurting them out in public.
