U-16 Pepsi - PCB Cricket Stars Tournament
Media Release - 8 October 2010
The first phase of Pepsi PCB Cricket Stars has come to an end. Trials for U-16 boys were held in 47 cities where more than 30,000 boys participated. It was a long process, however, with due diligence, the crème ala crème have been selected to represent their regional teams and play in the Pepsi PCB Cricket Star Tournament. The PCB Cricket Stars Tournament would commence simultaneously at Abbott bad, Islamabad and Karachi from October 18, 2010. Semi finals and final would be held at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. 11 regional and 1 FATA team would participate in the tournament. The Teams that have been selected after completing talent hunt activities at 47 various districts across the country under youth development program NCA, Youth Development Wing. Based on the performance of the players in the tournament the final 25 boys will be selected and they will be receiving advanced cricket coaching at the National Cricket Academy under elite NCA coaches. Pepsi and PCB Cricket Stars will surely help to develop a pipeline of cricketing talent for many years to come. Whatever, Pakistan will always produce decent talent but, not to flog a dead horse, it would be better if the PCB invested in getting a good structure first including grooming the players both technically and mentally. These types of camps will probably just produce the next lot of Akmals.

KARACHI: Karachi recorded an impressive 157-run victory over Multan in the PCB Pepsi Stars U16 Cricket tournament at the National Stadium here on Thursday. Batting first, Karachi posted a total of 307 for 7 in fifty overs, through fine centuries by opening pair of Afzal (112) and Jahid (104). They put on 182 for the first wicket partnership. Muhammad Anis claimed 4 wickets. Set a target of 308, Multan bowled out for 150. Bilal Manzoor chipped in with three wickets. In the other match played at the UBL Sports Complex Quetta defeated Faisalabad by 69 runs in a low scoring match. Quetta were all out for 143 runs in 40.5 overs, while batting first. Zeeshan Ahmed (33) and Sharf uddin (32) were the only notable scorers. Qasim Ali clinched five-for. Faisalabad were bundled out for 74 runs in 30.3 overs. Asim Nazir grabbed four wickets. |

Captain Jaahid Ali scored a fine 62 off 71 balls with five boundaries to play the main part in his team’s win. In the other match at UBL Sports Complex Ground, Faisalabad defeated Hyderabad by 101 runs. Summarised scores: Karachi bt Sialkot by 88 runs. Karachi 248-8 in 50 overs (Jaahid Ali 63, Jawwad Alam 38 not out. Imran Dad Khan, Mohammad Salman and Danish Aziz shared two wickets each.Here at the UBL Sports Complex, Faisalabad overwhelmed Multan by seven wickets. Multan were bundled out for 92 in 38.1 overs. Quetta defeated Peshawar by 7 wickets in the 1st semi final of The U-16 Pepsi – PCB Cricket Stars Tournament played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today. The Second Semi Final is due to be held tomorrow also at the Gaddafi stadium between Karachi U-16 and Abbottabad U-16.
The first phase of Pepsi PCB Cricket Stars came to an end earlier this month. Trials for U-16 boys were held in 47 cities where more than 30,000 boys participated. It was a long process, however, with due diligence, the crème ala crème were selected to represent their regional teams and play in the Pepsi PCB Cricket Star Tournament. The PCB Cricket Stars Tournament commenced simultaneously in Abbott bad, Islamabad and Karachi. 11 regional and 1 FATA team participated in the tournament. Based on the performance of the players in the tournament the final 25 boys will be selected and they will be receiving advanced cricket coaching at the National Cricket Academy under elite NCA coaches. It's great news that a team from Quetta has reached the final. Now if Abbottabad beats Karachi and reaches the final too, that would be a real achievement for these two cities which unfortunately dont have much representation in our national team. It might prompt PCB to focus on these regions more.

Lahore January 2, 2012: The second phase of the Pepsi – PCB Cricket Star Program 2011 under the Youth Development program will start at NCA from 16th January 2012 under the supervision of NCA elite coaches. This will be a 4 weeks advanced coaching program and players will report at NCA on 15th January 2012.
