I consider myself quite lucky that I've performed Hajj 3 times, Alhamdulillah.

My Parents will be going again this year along with my elder brother, Insha'Allah.

Rudi hater are you planning anything before you leave. Like a get together for friends and family before you leave? Or anything like that. Have no idea what the tradition or norm is that's why I'm asking.

This journey to be has made me even eager as one of our friends son past away last night he was 21 and was going to start his third year at Uni. It shows life doesn't wait for anyone, it is quite painful for his parents to cope with loss. Lets all pray for them, I am really upset for the whole family.

Hopefully though that need for too much walking will be eliminated when the Mecca Metro is fully operational.

The metro will definitely help ease some of the traffic and congestion issues but I think a significant number of people will still be doing a lot of walking. Because:

-It's not going to be cheap. From what I heard, it's going to be in the region of $80-$100 per ticket. And it's a single use return ticket, not like an unlimited ride pass. This means a lot of people, especially the undocumented who slip in quietly and sleep on the road or inside the Haram won't be able to afford it.

-Many people like to walk to everywhere because it is Sunnah.

-Some walking is unavoidable, like the tawaaf and sa'ee.

Yeah the real walking that gets to you are for the nafli tawaf if you do them, and of course sa'ee. Even then, it's not really the walk itself, but the walk barefoot on a rock hard albeit polished surface.

Still it's a great journey to undertake. May Allah accept everyone's effort.

I agree the surface is rock hard that makes it difficult.
