British Radio - comments about Pakistan!!!
There is a radio station over called Talk Sport. A presenter called Alan Brazil has now for the third time in two weeks mentioned :-
- how difficult it will be for the England tourists in Pakistan. - how bored they will be - can't drink etc - how boring Pakistan must be - how they will be staying in their rooms playing cards all the time - how they will 'cope with the third world culture'!! - mentioned that the food and accommodation will be a problem!! I was driving and getting angrier by the minute. I rang the station and got through to one of his back room staff and left the following message for him :- - Pakistan is a developed country - surprise surprise. Has produced some of the worlds top Engineers, Doctors etc - Pakistan is a super-power - has nuclear technology. - There is actually more to life then getting drunk - however they will be able to get drink in the hotels. - The hotels will be amongst the best in the world. - the restaurants will be amongst the best in the world. Try going out for an evening eating and enjoying the local food, the local culture. - the shops are open till 3am. The streets are buzzing. The atmosphere is great. You can buy anything - very cheaply, great quality. - The people are amongst the most hospitable in the world. - Venture a bit further and you will see scenery amongst the most fantastic in the world. - Other activities include hunting, skiing , mountaineering etc.. I think My Brazil feels that getting drunk is the be-all and end-all. I realise that Pakistan is not as sophisticated in that way. They will not be able to see drunken louts shouting 'Get your t**ts out for the lads' on a saturday night. They may also not be able to see drunken louts being sick on teh pavements. Or displaying their naked rears to the world. But apart from that...Pakistan will be fun for the poor souls.

TalkSport should not really be called TalkSport since all they ever talk about is football and the few times they talk about a different sport they just end up spouting rubbish like above.
FiveLive is not any better. A while back I heard Graham Gooch and co on FiveLive saying exactly the same sort of thing.....bad hotels, nothing to do at night, no alcohol, 5 appeals per over.

But he has an opinion about it! Reminds me of some highly literate Paksitani types brought up on Dickens and Jane Austen, Hardy and Maugham, and then come to England! I would say they are surprised when they run into some oiks. I think Mr Talksport would be surprised in a different way. |

By brining out this news in open you have made many people know who is Alan Brazil and what he said about touring Pakistan . Dont bother about sich things and give free publicity to such comments . Less bothered , more better for Pak fans .Just focus on Cricket and forget everything else .

I think the host can be right and wrong. Wrong because of the reasons mentioned in the first post. Right because the team might be restricted to certain confines due to security reasons.

I think Alan Brazil as a ex-footballer is just playing on stereotypes on what he has been told and what he reads. So pardon his ignorance.

Talksport has a few good presenters such as Ian Collins, Mike Dickin and JAMES WHALE. Alan Brazil just loves to drink. His whole life is based on that. Maybe if he ever went to Pakistan he would know the truth! I wouldnt worry about what he said. Since he covers the Sports Breakfast maybe when our boys inshallah whip England we shall see what he says then! Maybe then he will blame the culture as well!

this english team certainly wont abide by what mr.brazil has said. these guys are fun-loving it seems and more doen to earth then some of the other english teams that have set foot in pakistan before. i also think they wont whine if they end up losing the test series. they are more spirited that way.

talkSPORT To Give Up on Indian Cricket Rights
talkSPORT will not be bidding for the radio broadcast rights to England‘s Tour of India next year, according to a source close to the station. BBC Radio Sport won the rights to England’s Tour of Pakistan, which takes place in November and December, to broadcast their Test Match Special programme on BBC Radio 4 LW and BBC Radio Five Live Sports Extra. talkSPORT failed to release whether they had made a bid for the Pakistan rights but according to an insider at the station, it appears that talkSPORT will not even be bidding for the rights to England’s following Tour of India which will be taking place in early 2006. Commercial and financial reasons are expected to be the key factor in why talkSPORT are failing to bid for the broadcast rights for England’s Tours of Pakistan, India and Australia next year. In 2002, talkSPORT sensationally sold the rights to England’s Tour of Australia to the BBC with the unofficial reason stating that they were unable to gain sponsorship and advertisers for their commentary because of the time of broadcast. A talkSPORT insider said: “Time-wise we can’t get sponsors and advertisers because of the anti-social hours. For the same reason we’ve already said we didn’t go for the rights for Australia next winter.” Despite cricket’s popularity and raised profile following England’s Ashes Series victory over Australia in the summer, talkSPORT seem to be failing to capitalise on this success. The talkSPORT insider added: “To be honest I can't see us doing anymore international cricket in the near future. If we don't do it now, when cricket is at it's most popular, three years down the line people will have forgotten we've ever done cricket.” talkSPORT has said it will cover England's Tour of Pakistan in a similar way to how it covered The Ashes, despite not owning the broadcast rights. It will broadcast updates and reports, analysis, phone-ins and interviews with former and current players. Eng;and’s First Test Match against Pakistan begins on Saturday 12th November from 4:30am with regular updates and reports from talkSPORT’s Jack Bannister. Meanwhile, former talkSPORT cricket commentator Mark Nicholas will be penning a new contract with Australia’s Channel 9 following negotiations with the broadcaster to continue his role as commentator for Australia’s Test and One Day Matches. Channel 9’s Executive Producer Graeme Koos said recently said the network had "a pretty full commentary roster and to bring Mark in meant someone else gets pushed out", but it would seem that situation has changed after it was reported that he had been dropped from their coverage. Channel 9’s coverage is being taken by Sky Sports in this winter meaning Nicholas will be heard in the UK as soon as Wednesday when Australia take on the West Indies in Brisbane. Nicholas is also rumoured to be Richie Benaud's replacement in Australia when he retires. talksport is trash i remember in the world cup they used to do the commentary while watching a tv set lol |

I just talked to someone there and told him that brazil made some derogatory comments about PAK and that some sort of humanitarian touch would be nice at this crucial time for us and that ignorance only serves to make him a laughing stock. He said that he'll pass on the message to brazil and that i should really call tomorrow between 6 and 10 to talk to him directly. Dunno if i was on radio though.

Alan Brazil played in the 1978 World Cup for Scotland, and was a regular for Ipswich Town during their glory days and was bought by none other than Manchester United. He was FAR from an 'average centre-forward'.

I saw lots of Alan Brazil play, esp for that great Ipswich Team in 1980-81 under Sir Bobby.
However, he is now a rabied, alcoholic, non-coherent radio presenter on a channel that might as well be called 'Talk Immigration/Asylum/Foreigner'!!! No other station would hire the guy (who was sacked last year after on air drunkness and fighting with fellow host)...but reinstated when his 'core' listeners demanded him back!!! He speaks for the 'common man'! This is a station that is impossible to listen to you if you are non-white in my opinion (except for the excellent Hawkesby & Jacobs btwn 1-4pm)

Who cares what Alan Brazil thinks about Pak though undertsandbly it offends us still i wouldn't give him a second of my day!.I've seen him play football for Scotland when i was very young and at best i remember him being an average footballer who would always be moaning how our national team preferred Kenny Dalglish to him.The only thing that oozes footballing class about him is his surname.Yes he represented Man Utd for some years when the Mancs were rubbish!.In conclusion i wouldn't give the freak the satisfaction of calling in to his daft show.

Instead of responding to bigoted and prejudiced comments from the like of Mr Brazil by saying that no one listens to them, why dont you condenm his opinions instead. Loads of people listen to TalkSport and his not the only one with such opinions. You are always either justifying what people say, or say that no one listens to them. People do listen, so lets not try to sweep it under the name. Condemn it my man, condemn it! |

Ok David...here are few excerpts from a media forum I used to post on:-
The following is lifted from talksport1089.co.uk who in turn borrowed it from the Daily Mail talkSPORT have sacked Alan Brazil, co-presenter of The Sports Breakfast alongside Mike Parry, according to The Daily Mail Newspaper. The former Ipswich and Scotland striker failed to appear for last Friday's show which he co-presents with Mike Parry. However Brazil's latest absence, after three day's presenting The Sports Breakfast from the Cheltenham Festival, finally tipped the balance for station boss Kelvin MacKenzie, who has become increasingly frustrated during the past 18 months with Brazil missing shows. He received a number of written warnings from the station and have been concerned for some time about Brazil's champagne lifesyle, which has left him unfit to go on air a number of times. talkSPORT were also fed up with having to make excuses to listeners that their best paid anchor man at £200,000 a year, was unwell. Brazil, currently on a skiing holiday, strongly defends his behaviour. He said "talkSPORT encouraged my social life, telling me to go here and there. There were times after a big do when, yes, I wasn't in the right shape to go on the radio." "I admit I've missed shows during my four years at talkSPORT, but I believe my appearance record over that time compares favourably with other top presenters. I'm gutted that it's blown up with Kelvin. I wanted to carry on and I believe I had a genuine reason for not turning up last Friday. In my opinion talkSPORT have broken up their best partnership which was the main reason for listening to the station, I'm taking legal advice." also FOOTBALL pundit Alan Brazil yesterday vowed to sue his bosses after being axed by radio station TalkSport for not turning up at work. The former Scotland footballer slept in for his breakfast show last Friday after he spent three days at the Cheltenham Festival. When he returned to work the following day, he was told by station chief Kelvin MacKenzie his contract would be changed. Then 48 hours later, he was told he was too unreliable because of frequent bouts of sickness and ordered not to come back. Yesterday Brazil, 45, who earned £200,000 a year, said: 'I will be speaking to my lawyer about this and I am planning to take this further.' A source at the station said Brazil had gone AWOL several times in the last 18 months and had been given written warnings. MacKenzie was said to have been concerned for some time that Brazil's fondness for a good night out often left him unfit to go on air at 6am. The insider claimed MacKenzie was sick making excuses to listeners that their best-paid anchorman was unwell. Brazil added: 'There is a lot I would like to say but I can't really do that because of the prospect of legal action against TalkSport. 'We had three great days presenting the show from the Cheltenham Festival last week. 'I slept in for work on the Friday and the next day I was told my contract would be changed. 'Then two days later, I was sacked. 'I expected to be back behind the mike on Monday morning but that was not to be. I feel Kelvin MacKenzie has acted very strangely in this. I don't know if I'd say that I feel hard done by but there is a lot more to this that I can't say at this time. 'Everyone in the media business knows what Kelvin is like. 'I am now giving it to my lawyers to handle. 'I have had four years at TalkSport and I have loved it. It has been great and I will miss it. 'I really did enjoy doing what I was doing and didn't want it to end. 'I'm not sure if they were looking for an excuse to get rid of me but I find this very strange. 'It is a shame that this has happened and, in my opinion, the station will be poorer for this.' Glasgow-born Brazil played for Ipswich Town and Tottenham Hotspur as well as Scotland. After his playing career ended, he found work as a pundit and soon gained a reputation as one of the best in the business. He was signed up by TalkSport four years ago to present the breakfast show with Mike Parry. Yesterday morning, Parry told Brazil's fans that his co-presenter had left the station and that the parting was 'amicable'.

No problems David. Needless to say, Kelvin Mackenzie got him back in...but they had to move Mike Parry out to another slot.
He was actually a decent pundit about 10 years ago on Sky Sports...but these freebies/nights out/more freebies/his love of rracing and betting and then getting a job on a right-wing platform has messed the guy up. According to those who listen to him, he is still spouting some reral ancient/ficticious 'anti-Pak' stereotypes on his show.
