If the flight is actually arriving at 1.28PM (UK time), which is in an hour and ten minutes from now, that means he must have rushed straight to the airport when he said he was going to "a friend's house" much earlier this morning.

Who is getting the most of benefits from this? He is out the team today.
Umar akmal in, and if this will continue then Kamran will join the team.

What I can't understand is, how is everyone so normal?
Did Afridi, Waqar, Intikhab, rest of the team helped him?

How did he gets his passport?

All of all this is very very sad and very shameful for PCB, Pakistan and the team.

No one supporting him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If a player asks for his passport- he gets it, they are free men not prisoners.

I can understand why he fled if he felt the threat was real- would you trust your life to PCB management and the ICC ? He knew those buffoons could keep him safe even if they could be trusted so he left- hopefully he goes through proper channels and reports it once he is safe.

Yar.. Due to Zoni's poor English, his FB message is kinda open to many interpretations.. He might be talking about the 5th ODI when he said "last match".. Someone might have threatened him and asked him to underperform in the last ODI or else they'll harm him..or something like that.. which is probably why Zoni ran away..

Then again..these are all stories.. and what people "think". No body except Zulqarnain (and may be the team management) knows anything.

Go look at all the dropped catches by Kamran Akmal. One or two dropped catches by the keeper can easily alter the result of the match. Remember last Sydney test?

In UAE, you always have ti carry your passport or hakamaa so if he tolf Mgmt that he's going to see his freind a night before the game them obviously mgmt gave him his passport.....

Anyways, I hope he is safe and I do believe him that he got threats or else he was all set to play the test series

Say if he spills the beans to English media and his stories make global headlines, would he still get political asylum on the basis that his life would be in danger if he flies back to Pakistan?

The boookie must have called other players.

May be zoni wanted to blow the whistle, of other players being involved, and was threatened.

Or may be im just too much into conspiracy theories.

But pakistan team isnt showing any fight or passion at the moment

I hope zoni exposes whoever is there to be exposed. No point in running away like this if he is going to keep his mouth shut in England. And then even if Pakistan has to be banned to clear the mess, i'll take it.

Just when things were looking up for the Pakistan team something bizarre happens. They have been playing well on the field in this series. Players appeared to have the right approach to the game in the last three matches. Now this. It never ends.

Zulqarnain reported to be at Dubai airport

Quote:
Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider is reported to be at Dubai airport and preparing to fly to the United Kingdom. Sources in the PCB confirmed his presence at the airport a couple of hours after saying he was missing from the team currently playing the deciding ODI against South Africa at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

I know!! The Taliban have accepted responsibility of capturing him!

Aye serious now,

i got a feeling....

what if the bookie who threatened him also phoned his friend and issued a death threat saying if he doesnt call zoni to his house at a certain time, they will kill him as well.......and when zoni got to his friends house they captured him

and now have forced him into giving them his facebook password and are impersonating him and sending out fake msgs thru his profile???

what if they have already threatened the pak team 2day that if they dont lose todays match they will kill zoni or something???

what surety is there that the is at dubai airport? how can we be sure da management havent been forced to say this or threatened?

As soon as I heard he was missing I thought it had to do with match fixing. Maybe now the ICC can see how deep this problem is and how scared the players are. Maybe its a positive for young Amir. It might help hs cause.

As for for him flying to the UK, as I understand it, he shouldn't be allowed to board the plane unless he has a valid visa or the airline becomes responsible. So either he has a valid visa or something has been arranged.

Maybe the Anti Corruption Unit are involved and have taken him into their protection?

Sad state of affairs whatever is happening.

Why on earth only Haider is threatened when most of the time his role is not very crucial, sure he played well last game but then more threats should be given to Wahab, hes the one who made it closer twice in last two games.

role of the wicketkeeper can be crucial... catches more likely to come your way to drop, missed run outs, fumbles, byes, over throws missed.....bookies could bet on a number of things the keeper can do wrong

No one supporting him
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kamran and his cronies won't let him play the test series.

Well even if this was the case, the onus is back on our players that why didn't they said anything like that before, the more case would be that they are trying to get the advantage of someone else misery.

Sad state of affairs whatever is happening.
A good point about the possibility that he might have told the Anti Corruption Unit, and that they might be protecting him. Odd that the PCB weren't made aware though, unless he and the Anti Corruption Unit didn't think they could be trusted.

Regarding possible reasons for his flight to the UK, it's not only the press who might be interested in speaking to him. There's also Scotland Yard!

The UK doesn't normally grant asylum unless the asylum seeker arrives directly from the country where they are a citizen, so if that is what he's doing, he's gone about it in a strange way, and I don't rate his chances of success.

Wow, just saw this right now... Hope Zoni is ok.

Anyhow, Big Harvey, are you suggesting Zoni has become a whistleblower for ICC against PCB?

Wouldn't surprise me, but I think the best man to explain whats going on is Zoni himself, hopefully he will come out about this soon.

Sorry mate but you are wrong in your statement. Most of the asylum seekers to the UK arrive via the channel tunnel from France, having travelled overland from their home countries.

Zoni must have a valid visa already to enter. Maybe his visa from the summer is still valid?

Is this guy serious? He puts his number up on facebook? His privacy settings are a joke too, I can see his wall and his profile pics.

His pics are good for a laugh , also the comment under his FB status is hilarious:

hahaha

I'm only speculating. There are a number of possible reasons why all this could be happening.

Maybe this is all just a massive sulk after he got fined for staying out late. That seems a bit unlikely though.

Yeah that would be overreacting too much and he would probably have to be a psychotic to run awya like this for a fine and get security deployed for family and now his brother doing a press conference . i would rule that out

Maybe the PCB had an idea and the " curfew " is there to protect the players so maybe they do not get attacked ? But right now PCB is just as clueless as we are
