What made this guy so special that gangsters/bookies were after his family/himself if he didn't lose a match.

Surely at that time there were greats of Afridi and Razzaq but no, Bookies are going after Zulqarnain of all people.

His story sounded very fishy to me, particularly because he was a nobody for bookies, I don't think bookies go after low order players when there are so many high order players also playing.

Did he just hate cricket, made up an excuse, I remember reading he couldn't give authorities any evidence of receiving threats.

Easily our best Wicket keeper/batsman though, just there were other top order players before him.

You guys believed his story? why did he want to leave? everyone dies to play for Pak, now the guy is not even playing domestic or anything If I'm not wrong.

he is still in domestic cricket I believe.. and although I think his story sounds fishy not due to bookies not approaching him but due to the millions of base less accusations he started throwing around

As a WK you have a tremendous influence on the game so it is quite believable that he was approached but the way he handled it was completely wrong, he could have talked to senior management and if he didn't trust them than maybe one of the senior players or even contact local authority, running away to a different country is an extreme way to handle such a situation.

First of all his batting was nothing to write home about. Secondly what he did was unpardonable, a fake failed attempt to seek asylum abandoning his family members, an ailing father when apparently they had been threatened. He got of pretty lightly, the PCB should have made a stronger example out of him. Highly doubt the team will ever want him back now.

He was not able to provide any substantial proof of the threats to him and his family ... but I still wonder what made him abandoning his team and disappear like that ... a mere chance of getting asylum in the UK or was there something more??? I guess no one can tell!!

It was all a farce to get permanent residency inthe uk, yes maybe he was approached by bookies but the guy added several layers to it and lied through his teeth
