Pathaan.

Basically, with most crisps, they use FLAVOURINGS.

So Many Chicken Flavour crisps contain NO CHICKEN, just flavourings that may be made from vegetables etc, so those crisps are halal.

Also many Beef/Bacon flaovour crisps contain NO bacon or beef-just flavourings made of veg and other substances.

So, it is possible to buy chicken/beef/bacon etc flavoured crisps that are 'suitable for vegetarians'.

I have eaten the chicken flavoured ones many times, but would never eat bacon flavour crisps as they are meant to imitate somethings that is haraam.

It s choice essentially.

The reason why these are made suitable for veggies is that (1) its cheaper and (2) most veggies miss their meat, so it allows them to consume products that taste and smell of beef/bacon/chicken without actually consuming any flesh.

Hope thats clear-ish!

No guys-you will actually find that many bacon/chicken/beef flavoured srisps are technically HALAL (permissable for Muslims) because they dont actually contain any meat/haram substances-just artificial flavourings)

Its just that beef and chicken can be eaten if slaughtered in a correct way for us (so you shouldnt have any problems in eating chicken/beef flavoured crisps), HOWEVER, even if bacon flavoured crisps are made from veggie flavourings, and technically are HALAL to eat, I WOULD NOT eat them because the thought of eatinbg something that is meant to immitate a haraam product that is considered filthy in Islam would make me run a mile!

Spot on Geordie.

Walkers acted fast when they realised that many Jewish/Muslim and Veggie consumers were boycotting the brand (me included).

a lot of them use animal fat - they say they have chased - but after they have done it once who can trust them? after all would u drink ribena again? or lucozade? after their little scandals

ribena - use pork extracts to flavour - DISGRACEFUL

lucozade - contains alcohol
