Booing in cricket!

Ive been watching a bit of the Aus-Eng ODI series and something that has been very apparent is the hostility of the Aussie fans for their captain Michael Clarke. Everytime that he comes out to bat there is a torrent of jeers from the spectators.

Now cricket is not a sport like football where booing the players is a common practise. Infact it rarely occurs and I have very few recollections of it happening on such a large scale( where you can hear it through the TV)

So it is even more shocking to hear the level of boos that Clarke gets from his home crowd.

Do you guys think that there is a place for booing your own players or even oppostion players in cricket??
and do you guys remember any instances.... ones i remember are:

1) Indian crowd to the Indian team and Greg Chappel after Ganguly was dropped.
2) English crowd to Ponting in 2009 ashes

Cricket fans seem to be very soft. Some don't like sledging and now booing too? They're professional athletes, folks.

You guys should watch the NBA.. chants of "Kobe Sucks" whenever Lakers play Boston .

Think booing as generally increased across sports... look at football, especially English... it was uncommon to boo, even if your team weren't doing great... but now it's normal...

expectations have risen, patience has decreased...

and we see the same thing in cricket now..

I guess it hass increased because earlier spectators used to sledge players with icc showing warnings in big screens not to tell anything to the players booing has come into play when a big group does it can't take some kind of action coz nt everyone in da pack booed

in 2006 south african tour to india.. SA team went to play an ODI in Kolkata. The crowd booed India throughout the match and there were attempts to physicallt attack Chappel.
Indian lost by a record margin

Wikipedia report:
When the Indian team arrived at Eden Gardens in Calcutta for the third ODI of the series, an angry Bengali public greeted the team bus, chanting and waving banners with anti-Chappell and pro-Ganguly sentiment. Cameras captured a middle finger being displayed to the protestors, attributed to be the finger of Chappell. During the match, the Indian team were booed and the South African batsmen were cheered as they accumulated the runs necessary for a ten-wicket victory.
