Usman Khawaja named State Player of the Year
Usman Khawaja has capped off a summer in which he made his Test debut by being named the State Player of the Year at the Allan Border Medal night in Melbourne.
Khawaja might not play too many matches for the Blues next season, if he establishes himself in the Test line-up, but he was a clear winner this season with 35 votes, ahead of the Victoria allrounder Andrew McDonald on 12. Victoria's wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and the Queensland fast bowler Chris Swan tied for third with 11 votes each. It meant a runaway victory for Khawaja, 24, who won his first baggy green last month at the SCG, when he replaced the injured captain Ricky Ponting at No. 3 for the final Ashes Test. His domestic highlight during the voting period, which began on February 14 last year, was without doubt his career-best 214 against South Australia in the opening round of the Sheffield Shield in October. Khawaja's win ended the successful run of the South Australia captain Michael Klinger, who had won the title back-to-back over the past two years. It also meant an award double for New South Wales, with the fast bowler Copeland having picked up 44 votes to beat the Queensland batsman Chris Lynn (27) and the Victoria batsman Aaron Finch (15) for the young player prize. ---------------------------- ------------------------------------© ESPN EMEA Ltd Last edited by Newton_fan; 7th February 2011 at 10:33. |

He played four innings against England this summer and looked like a rabbit in headlights in all of them, to be frank.

What does that have to do with anything? There are plenty of threads on England's prospects as an ODI side that you should check out - making your comments here does nothing to disprove my criticism of Usman Khawaja as a test match player.

I truly wish if he becomes part of Australia's ODI and T20 squad. He is quite capabale of hitting hard in the gaps of over the head to make quick runs. He should have played in the last ODI against sore loser English Squad in the absence of Michael Clarke but oh well,,, Australia was gonna win anyway. |

exciting batsman but he disapointed in his 1st outing. Especially 2nd innings he went into his shell. and first innings he was caught in the web by bowler. i expected him to make a 60 atleast.

If you're calling me out mate don't use such pathetic tactics, just type my username. We're all friendly here - it's a public forum.
I don't 'hate' any players, I give credit and criticism where they are due. I've got so many better things to do in my life than hate cricket players. I stand by any criticisms I have made of Umar Akmal and Usman Khawaja. Those arguments were probably not perfect but had a lot more basis than stupid generalisations such as 'English supporters mainly hate' or 'the haters are mainly English supporters'.
