What about Rana?

With all the talk over the conterversies we forget to talk about Rana's excellent bowling. He bowled with fire and a lot of effort. That yorker to Vaughan was beautifull and close quality to Shoaib's yorker to Giles. So has Naveed proved everyone wrong about being only a odi player?

I liked the Osman Samiuddin's article on Rana on cricinfo today. He certainly deserves praise.

Rana is the most intelligent Pak bowler out there. That includes the ones playing in this match and those on the sidelines.

The way he set up Vaughan today was magnificent - a very clever piece of bowling. Short of a length express delivery, then the slower ball, followed by a rapid yorker. Perfectly executed.

seems a spell in county game @ sussex has done rana world of good. rana actually reigned himself in early on and bowled with discapline and then added variation aftawards.

rana isnt most talented bowler in world, hes whole hearted cricket! Most of all he has a brain something i hope sami will grow one day.

I remember another young pakistan fast bowler blossoming afta a spell @ sussex.. you know that bloke imran .... the guy who won us the world cup.

am not making an comparisons but i hope rana does blossom into a top test bowler.

i had huge doubts and still have a few on rana the test bowler but boy deserves a clap for todays performance.

Rana might lack the skill but yu can never write off Rana because of his attitude. The guy should be in an energizer commercial. Is a great athelete. Bowled a 10 over spell today, and makes his presence felt on the field. If there is something he is not good at, give him time and he will improve. With an attitude like his, I would back him to come out on top in anything.

I'd argue he has plenty of skill as well. More variety than all the other pacers in the team, 85-90mph speed, swing away from the right hander with the new ball, reverse swing both ways with the old, and equally importantly, a good cricketing brain and knack of using his variety well.

I don't know how people can say that Rana lacks the skills or talent. He bowls at a lively pace, can swing the new and old ball, has an excellent slower ball, uses his head. What more do u need as a bowler??

He may have come on the scene a bit late, and has a dodgy haircut, but talentless he is NOT!

But if the better legspinners are said to possess a fast bowler's mentality, then Rana inverts this truism: he is a fast bowler with a legspinner's mentality, so much variety that he possesses.

what a line by osman bhai...and to bowl with so much variety requires a great deal of talent...not everybody can do it...

Rana not very talented is a big misconception here on PP. Sure he's a hardworker but that doen't mean he can't be talented.
