Should umpires undergo a medical test

The 3 worst umpires on the current scene are Hair, Koertzen and Bucknor. Sheppard was probably worse than them in his last 5 years. To me these old farts are not physically fit to umpire at their age.

poor reflexes, poor eyesight, poor hearing ability, poor judgement maybe due to alzheimers disease are contributing to them making some very poor decisions.

Either all umpires over 50 undergo a medical test or these old farts should not be allowed to umpire

more of an aptitude test

and there should be monitoring of umpires, with bans and fines handed out for incorrect decisions

they should take a lie detector test asking if they favour one side over the other. Would be some interesting results.

I'd just be happy with any test that actually manages to filter out clinical degenerates.

My take on this is that there arent enough umpires on the elite panel. Most of the elite panel umpires are overworked, overweight and overpaid

Seriously though, I think its time the ICC looked into this properly and realised that they need younger men doing the job and a larger panel of umpires.

I think the partiality of the umpires is much more of an issue than their incompetence.

Sheppard would've "retired" at least 5 years earlier than when he did had they implemented some sort of a medical checkup.

for some of these guys (eg Hair and Koertzen) you get the sense though that it isn't just incompetence (due to medical condition, etc) that prevents them from doing their job correctly.

they should also be fined for incompetence - as the players are.

something needs to be done..

about the standard of umpiring in international cricket. This faisalabad test has made a mockery of " neutral" umpiring, not to mention the events in the tests going on in Australia.

This kind of umpiring has transformed the game of gentlemen in circus. the number of wrong decision in mention test is staggering. Especially Hair's warnings to Butt and Conaria were uncalled for.

The manner is which these warnings were given was even more appalling and clearly showed that Darrell Hair had an agenda. Usually umpires TALK to the player verbally and lets him that he is on the so-called " danger area". I have seen umpires speak twice to the plyers before officially warning them.

Butt and Conaria were not spoken to and were directly officially warned. Butt's warning were specially, very very disgusting. The people who watched the match live will agree with me.

I am sorry but this getting out of the hand, I am so surprised to see no reaction from Pakistan camp at all after all these incidents in one single test match.

It's time are stooped being treated as ' Sacred Cows' and be punished for their disgusting behavior.

well my thread was about umpires are CHEATS, Hair and Rudi in particular, they are not retards or mediaclly challenged.

if they were medically challenged some of their decisions will go against the Asussies and English, no ?

Age is a factor and I think they should be monitored closely after they touch 50. Taufel is pretty good and it's no surprise he's fairly young. Sadly one or two seem to have an agenda against some teams and Rudi is, sadly, one such umpire.
