Saint Sami....the last hope ...

This doesnt deserve its own thread and will be assimilated in one of the many "I hate Sami" threads soon...

From the Holy Book of Cricket, chapter title “Collingwoods Reprieve”:

Quote:
Paul Collingwood the ordinary journeyman suffered from a disease that batsman around the world feared… he was unable to score past 1 ….
Finding no answer to his quandary and facing failure after failure, including predicting a 3-0 defeat for his foes, Paul turned to the Lord.

On the night before the Lahore test, Paul Collingwood prayed really hard :

" Oh Lord, grant me an angel with straightish hair that will deliver me from the evil that is bad form....Oh Lord, let me attain stardom from Mediocrity.... in one or 2 overs – please and let Akhtars evil arrows known as Yorkers away from my twinkle toes!"

And the Lord heard Pauls prayers.

It is noted by historians that in that year 2005 of our Good Lord, an angel by the name Sami descended on the ground in Lahore and said unto Paul – “Paul thou shall play every ball for a four “ A bewildered Paul asked but how ? I haven’t scored a sinlge run in years – how can this be ? Sami The Angel replied – “like this” and he bowled a half volley, followed it by another wayward off spinner and another and so on…..” Pauls problems had been solved by divine help and the Angel Sami hovered on the Lahore ground like a protector of the below average batsman, forever ready to help out.

Seeing this miracle, other non believers in their own abilities who also belonged to Pauls team, also started to pray that Angel Sami would bowl to them. One by One, their prayers were answered and Angel Sami began to change their fortunes.
Sami, the last hope of the beleaguered – well done for another fantastic display of fast bowling…

What about the angels-in-chief (angel coach and angel Captain)? The ones who back him should get some credit as well.

Pakistan selectors will never learn. I have been screaming the obvious for two years.

SAMI IS RUBBISH. SAMI IS NOT TEST CLASS. SAMI STRUGGLED IN COUNTY CRICKET FOR KENT. SAMI HAS NO ATTRIBUTES OTHER THEN PACE AND THAT IS NOT ENOUGH IN TESTS. SAMI IS VERY WAYWARD. SAMI IS RUB BISH. SAMI IS RUBBISH. SAMI IS RUBBISH.

I already wrote abotu Sami even before this series, his Test bowling average which resembles like a top order batsmens average is testimony enough that he shouldnt be a auto selection,he should be told to win matches or else chucked out of the team, yes he is talented and good ODI bowler, but in Tests he has been doing nothing and blew lot of chances so far, prime examples are series in India, against India in 2004,in AUS,in WI and much more, not once did he take a 5 wicket haul to turn the match in paks favour.or prolly did once or twice,i dont recollect at all.

I thought all Sami threads were merged???? Why not this one?

Anyway, my two-pence on the subject...

After the 1st test, I was very vocal about backing him. However, he still seems too unsure of himself and whether to go all out or not. If he can't produce fire with any confidence, then it's not really worth it. Time to give someone else a chance. But if we do pick another quickie like Yasir Ali or Irshad in his place, it's very important NOT to curb their attacking instincts..

Here's hoping Sami takes a 5 for in a Pakistan win in this test, so he is assured a series against India. All hail Saint Sami.

Hi MIG, been busy with work etc. How've you been? Yeah, Ind-SA was better than I expected. I was expecting a 2-3 loss for us. But really disappointed with the section of the Kolkata crowd for their lousy behaviour in booing India and Dravid.

Anyhow to the topic, anything I can do to make sure Sami plays all 3 tests against us?

BW said the same thing about Hameed before finally dropping him. I see an axe coming down n Sami right after this series.

It is because of Sami that bowlers like Khalil think that they have a very good chance

but u wud have set some performance criteria. we waited for Indo Pak 2004, then Aus, then Lanka, then Indo Pak 2005 then Pak-Eng. what next. In the words of Waqar bhai today Sami is a liability to the team in other words Sami Holding Muft kee rotia toor raha hai

I think so Sami Holding is the luckiest cricketer to ever play for Pakistan. He is the only one including both batsman / bowlers who is getting chance again n again and that too consistently but still not performing. and some including bob is saying he is unlucky

raz, is waiting till zimbabwe tour pakistan next year october so that sami can try and prove himself and get stack loads of wickets against them...

however, in reality i can see only two outcomes.

1) zimbabwe been banned from international game before that tour even occurs.

2) unknown zimbabwe batsmen will be amde world class by samis buffet bowling!

nedian,

lets be honest if sami was:-

australian - he wouldnt be playing cricket now he would probably be an extra in neighbours or home & away

english - he would just be seen as a county trundler

indian - fastest bowler in india ever

bangladeshi - he would be probably just get into their "A" team

zimbabwian - he would be an all rounder

I think people are being way too harsh on sami and i think we should all stop cursing sami, and not take our anger out on him. Sami has consistently bowled like this and has shown no signs of improvement, so it is an incompetence on the part of the selectors. It is not a sarcastic comment, i have a lot of sympathy for sami and just think how HE must feel when he constantly lets the team down. I really feel for him but i am angry on the slectors for trying to put so much pressure and embarrasment on this young boy. Sure he is talented but you are pinning to much hopes on him and he is not delivering, so choose someone else!!! I think sami has lots of potential and I dont belive in ending one's international career permanently, he should however be given a LONG break and play first class cricket only. If after 2 or 3 years he looks a different bowler, then why not give him another chance, but for now lets not be harsh on HIM.

In the history of pak cricket has there been anyone who was given CONSISTENT chances and still retain a top order average?

the guy sucks and he should have been thrown out a year ago.

I think sami does have potential.Potential to increase his average to 100
You completely misunderstood my whole post. I am not criticising the selectors for not giving him enough chance, i am criticising them cos they are giving him too many chances, probably against sami's deep down will. I fully support droping sami, but you cant be angry at sami, cos it is the slectors job to select him.

I was looking at Sami's stats and i just thought that if you switch his batting and bowling averages.....then you have the best all-rounder in the world...!!!

batting avg = 46.80
bowling avg = 11.70 ......strike rate = 29.81

lol....only if that was true....

Sami will again be PLaying for Pak against India no doubt after his wonderful performance against Engaland will be justified as the reason by the management I guess (if thats what you call it, taking wickets of tailenders from poor balls I thought).

Saint Sami I guess has resurrected himself again??? I guess Gul won't be playing now. This guy has more lifes the luckiest cat?????????
