I would say that Indian politicians are slightly better off and more intelligent than Pakistani politicians when it comes to policy matters.
Plus, I'm not sure, but I think Indian politicians are better educated. |

Both are bad. But looking at the major parties, I would say Indian political parties have more eminent academicians and intellectuals.

Both side politicians are same. That is both has a spectrum of bad to good ones.
However, I feel the Indian voters are better in terms of maturity and voting sense.

Majority of policy decisions in India are taken by bureaucrats (IAS, IFS etc) who are highly educated and smart ones (generally). A good politician helps speeding the decision if he supports the similar thought and policy.
But unfortunately, we don't get that combination always. Also, in last decade or so, most of the top politicians are with good academic and past experience in economics, legal and foreign affairs. So it helps.

Our Indian lot aint any better than their counterparts across the road.
Only thing we have been luckier is that in the present govt. we got 2 strong technocrats (Mr Singh and Chidambram) functioning at the top wit the help of some really strong team members like Mr Ahuwalia. Now these guys aint strictly politicians and do no woo to any particular caste/community etc. The rest of them are all corrupt "Harmkhors who will even pimp their mothers for the satta and kursi. Though having said all that the Indian educated class (yours truly as well) are guilty of only moaning and not doing anything. We lack about the quality of politicos in the nation but very few seem to dirty ther hands as well. The only savings grace is that the Indian middle class is only slowly gearing upto its responsibilities and are getting involved in NGO's (non governmental organisations). Also a bit controversial but i feel that Indians are not inherently democratic and the only reason democracy has taken root becuase it has something for everybody. For the industrialist to have the politcos in his pockets and make more moolah For the poor down trodden to consolidate their negotiating powers and at least get the effect of being heard and live in the hope that one day 1 of their own will rise to the top and do something about the upliftment of his/her brethren... For the educated-have somebody as a proxy to vent all their frusturation and have some one to blame at. For the beaurucrats- get the chance to make some moolah in cahoots with their political masters for the term and when the govt leaves, make more dosh with the next one.. For the goondas- get a customer for their services and get the patronage of their master Finally the politico-become the most hated and viled creature in the land but also be assured that you will be leaving behind enough for next 7 and plus generations to live off without lifiting a finger. The great Indian democratic tamasha truly has something for everyone. |

They are just bad as Pakistani politicians but it's the institutions like the judiciary, parliament, the electoral commission and even the media which help keep them in check and thus lets the country function.
Yes they are corrupt but they know they can't push it too far in fear of jail, being kicked out come election time etc. Last edited by Gabbar Singh; 13th May 2011 at 15:45. |

its the people power that keeps the government in check, thats the idea of democacy.
As India has moved ahead in education and ppl are getting more aware politics has improved. but its like moved from .1 % to .2% ample scope of improvement but we are on the right path. |

Most Pakistani politicians come from educated elite class... In India, most politicians come from poor illiterate areas(who were originally thugs) with no manners.... Some of my Indian friends amy differ.. But that is a fact. 30% of the LokSabha seats are reserved for SC/ST/BC people who form 75% of the population.. But the good thing going for India is that the most important policies are made by well educated people... |

I think the comparison is very similar to BCCI officials vs PCB officials.
Both are corrupt but- Indian politicians are corrupt but efficient and Pakistani politicians are corrupt but incompetent. Lets take a hypothetical example: If you leave an Indian politician in charge of a fruit garden, the first thing he will think is how to steal from it and make money. He slowly take half the fruits to his home, but will ensure that the garden keeps growing so that he gets to take more of the produce to his home and make more money. If you leave a Pakistani politician in charge of a fruit garden, he will get so greedy that he will pluck a fruit and bite more than he can chew and will choke on it. Then he will try to pluck all the fruits, will put them in bags and will try to take it all to his home and set fire to the garden. Another hypothetical example: If you give an Indian politician the proverbial goose that lays golden eggs, he will steal half of the eggs to his home. A Pakistani politician in his place will take the goose to his home and will kill it to find all the golden eggs at once. That is the difference in my opinion. That is why India still is making some progress under corrupt politicians, but unfortunately, Pakistan is getting pushed back in time.

Indian politicians are better, BUT that isn't much when comparing to Pakistani politicians.
Pakistani politicians (barring a few) are the scum of this planet. Corrupt to the core.

They're quite alike in numerous ways - power hungry, corrupt, self-serving, etc... But in the end, it really comes down to one thing really:
In India the politicians fear the voters, whereas in Pakistan it seems the politicians fear the army. Last edited by waterlemming; 13th May 2011 at 23:42. |

One positive trend in Indian politics, in recent years, has been the results of the state level elections. The more corrupt and inefficient governments are being routinely routed out and the better governments are getting appreciated and manage to come back to power.
As a result, there are a few state governments that are doing creditable job and have been in power for long periods. Now, these governments are not perfect and the fact that people in these governments are byproduct of the Indian political system does mean that there is corruption at some level or other, but, by and large, they are clean at the very top and do a better job than what people are normally used to.
