Jayasuriya Returns/ Will Retire After 1st ODI/T20 vs England

Sri Lanka allrounder Sanath Jayasuriya has been recalled to the national ODI and Twenty20 side for the upcoming series against England.

There was recent speculation over the possible inclusion of Jayasuriya, who turns 42 in June, following the thumb injury sustained by captain and opener Tillakaratne Dilshan in the second Test against England that has put him in doubt for the third Test. Dilshan's injury means that Sri Lanka could be without their two first-choice openers for the initial one-day games against England as Upul Tharanga has been ruled out of the limited-overs leg of the tour as he prepares to face a disciplinary committee for failing a drugs test during the World Cup.

Jayasuriya, retired from Tests in 2007, but continued to play in limited-overs cricket. He last played in an ODI for Sri Lanka in 2009 and was left out of the list of 20 players who were offered central contracts by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2010. Though he was named in the provisional squad of 30 for the 2011 World Cup, he did not make the final 15.

Bad decision.

His last 15 innings before his retirement he scored

3, 13, 24, 0, DNB, 31, 4, DNB, 1, 23, DNB, 5, 0, 4, 1

I can't see what prompted selectors to ask him to make this U-turn. May be his being an MP influenced the decision.

Anyway, Jayasuriya needs to let go and move on!

Maybe, he feels he can retain that 'most sixes' record.

After all, Shahid Afridi retired.

Was this the reason why Sanga quit? I remember, before the WC, there was a lot of pressure on Lankan selectors to pick Jayasurya (who is now a ruling party MP in Sri Lanka). And then post the WC, there were reports that Sanga wasn't pleased with political interference in team selection.

Something is wrong with cricketing administrators around the world. Australia drops a top performer like Katich because he turned 36 and SL picks up a 41 year old who wouldn't merit a place even in their B team.

Meanwhile India has tried even Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan when we already have Sehwag, Sachin, Gambhir and Veejay as options. Sri Lanka should look towards the future and stop taking backward steps, getting back a 42 year old who is out of form for ages

What about this ?? dropped from main events then recalled as a vice-captain is this a joke or a cricket ?

Kandamby - named vice-captain of the limited-overs squad ahead of former captain Kumar Sangakkara, who is Dilshan's deputy in the ongoing Test series in England - was not part of the World Cup squad and last played an ODI for Sri Lanka in 2010.

Vice-Captaincy is 100 % right of this talented All Rounder Angelo Mathews !!!!!!

this must be getting desperate to revert back to Jaya after so long. tharanga has been accused of failing his dope test and dilshan is injured.

but i'm glad he's back in the international set-up. such an entertainer to watch him bat. hope he gets selected.

When Dilshan and tharanga comes back, will he be kicked out of the side then? Makes no sense, should have got a youngster in. Pranavanita could have been given a debut in limited overs too with an impressive list A average. There are plenty of options.

Good gesture by SL board IMO...

"The England tour will be my last tour for my country. I will play the first one-day and the Twenty20 match and retire," Jayasuriya said on Thursday. "I am thrilled that the selectors had faith in my fitness."
Hope he makes a 100,was fantastic to watch in his prime.

Wow, I'm glad just for the fact that he will be getting a proper send-off. If anyone deserves it, it's Jayasuriya.
