Literally in Hindi it means "I bow to thee" in a respectful way (not in way of prayer). Colloquially it has just come to mean "Greetings". I would say the closest Urdu equivalent would be Salaam?

It is "Mukhtasir" which could roughly be translated as 'short', like to tell a story in 'short'.

However, the Urdu word for 'short' like in height or size is "chhota".

I hope it helped.
