NCAA Basketball Thread

It's that time again. With no NBA this year, us basketball fans have only college basketball to look forward to. Who will you be supporting?

Personally, I think this will be North Carolina's year. An NBA caliber front court, the best passer in college, and several solid freshmen should be more than enough to win the championship.

Also, go to hell Duke! Struggled to beat Belmont yesterday.

Most basketball fans from the US are also college basketball fans. Judging by the NBA thread, I'm hoping there are at least a few .

Don't get into NCAA Hoops until March Madness, but that could change if the NBA continues its lockout.

Kentucky scares me. They play North Carolina on Dec. 3rd, could be a preview of the national championship game.

Won't be in the Big East much longer so it'd be a good not to leave on. I'm disgusted to see them leave the Big East.

True, they are coming to the much better ACC

I am exciting about the new competition we will have here. Won't just be UNC-Duke anymore.

Looks like Syracuse assistant coach Fine is being accused of molestation by a former ball boy . If true, I wonder what effect it will have on the team's performance (if any).

For me, March Madness is the most exciting sporting event of them all. Better than the NBA (by far), better than the Super Bowl, and even better than the Cricket World Cup. When you have 68 teams fighting for a championship, the upsets, the buzzer-beaters, and the Cinderella teams you see each year are absolutely breathtaking. And then you have conference tournaments, and the regular season, which are quite exciting in their own way.

But to each his own, I suppose. And I'm not sure which "big guns" you're talking about.

March Madness is good but I don't follow the whole NCAA from start. I do agree with you March Madness, see 2011 March Madness Buzz Beater and they are amazing.

Big players of NBA mate.

Well NBA players cannot play in it, since NCAA is college level. But, as always, we have future NBA players playing (i.e. Harrison Barnes, Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis, etc.).

Owners don't want a season. That's the bottom line. Some teams are making more money because of the lockout. Obviously, teams like the Knicks, Lakers, Celtics, etc would like to play but the small market teams are better off skipping a season.

The owners offered them a final deal and gave union to talk over.

If the deal was put through a vote then it would have passed but union leaders are either really stupid or have their own personal agendas.

the recent deal that nba put together had 18 owners agreeing to it so it was upto the players to take it or leave it.

The owners that dont want a season also own nhl teams and they want a hard cap system identical to the nhl.

Big game today, Duke (6) vs. Kansas (14).

As always, I am rooting against Duke, but I think they will win. They looked quite good against Michigan yesterday.

Davis has been a monster, looks like a real talent.

But Kentucky will likely lose to North Carolina in December.

As I predicted, Duke won. But they got very, very lucky. A desperation heave by Thorton (no name player) went in near the end. Kansas couldn't do much about that.

That was a 7% cut in revenue for the players. Going from 57% to 50% is not easy.

NBA players already getaid too much. On average they earn more than NFL and MLB playe.rs. Also the league lost around $300 million last season

Terrible loss by UConn. They've got too much talent to lose such games. They may be a more talented team this year, but do they have a game winner like Kemba Walker?

I remember watching Duke during the days of J.J Redick.

How are they now?

I know Coach K is a legend. Still can't believe he's never taken an NBA job. One of the finest coaches in the history of the sport.

His system is perfectly suited for collegiate ball. In the NBA, you need to do a lot more than hit open threes.

That's why most of his players don;t make it to the big time.

Is Drummond really the next Amare/Dwight?

Seems a little weak to me, not as developed (mentally) as those players were at the same age.

He is way more developed then either dwight or amare were at this stage. The problem is that his team is full of chuckers who dont know how to pass in the post.

Drummond is a beter defender than Amare but his offensive game is still developing.

There doesn't seem to be a strong interest in NCAA Basketball on this forum. Anyway, Rivers' 3-point shot right at the buzzer against UNC was epic. Shouldn't look to rush into the NBA, another year under Coach K would improve his game substantially.

You must be pretty upset there Chaiwala, considering you seem to be a big Tarheel fan.

Although Davis seems to be a definite first pick, this year's draft is pretty deep. Will be interesting to see how teams go about it.

Most of the players are high reward high risk kind of guys. Guys like drummond, barnes have dissapointed me this season. Drummond looks like he wont reach his full potential.

Upset doesn't begin to describe it. I was actually at the game. Stood five hours in the cold to get in. We were all getting ready for our Franklin St. celebration, only to have our hopes crushed on the last shot.

So, Davis looking like the 1st pick in June?

Sites suggest he's another Chris Bosh. Will he be better than Bosh or similar?

Has Drummond done that badly? He's supposed to be a beast!

Bosh never played defense seriously where did scouts get this from

Drummond looks so soft out there, he cant even hit free throws and is scared to bang in the post.

Rivers will be a solid NBA player but there are a lot of holes in his game. He should definitely stay for another year.

SEC is top heavy. Middle okay. Bottom bad. Kentucky - Florida potential final four team.

Big12: Kansas, Baylor, Mizzou. Overall good this year.

ACC: With so much talent, under performing.

Lets go Hogs in couple of years. back to the glory days.

UNC(6) vs. Duke(3) meet again in a couple of hours. Winner takes the ACC regular season title.
