Dubai Test - bowling speeds

Just had a glance at the English 'Phaast' bowlers bowling speeds and everyone is struggling to touch even 135ks.

Broad who was touching 90MPH in England and was infact their bowling hero is looking pedestrian. Same with Chris 'Built like a Tank' Tremlett who is in the early 130s. Jimmy was always a swing bowler so no change there.

Similarly the Pakistani 'Phaast' bowlers also were struggling hit mid 135ks. What is happening? Did you guys (both sides) have some Indian curry in the last two days

Why blame Umesh or Ishant only when they lose pace, you guys are no better or worse

Umesh is faster than all Pakistani pacers currently . He's a good bowler and bowls his heart out, Ishant bowls his heart out but is plain rubbish, he has pace but a proven failure.

at Tremlett. This giant guy "built like a tank" is currently bowling 127 km.

Lets name him the giant trundler.

If we had won one or two games in australia we might have got bragging rights about our pace bowlers.

^^ Just a fun thread mate Dont get emotional. My point is that bowling speeds have to do a lot with the local conditions, so when a guy who is normally fast bowls slower in the sub continent it could just mean
1) the pitch doesnt have any pace at all
2) the bowler realises the fact and is bowling well within himself
3) the bowler is conserving energy
4)or he has just turned crap.

Most cases the first three would be true. Just ridiculing a bowler because he is bowling slower than usual (esp. Indians ) is not fair.

And yes I am referring to bowling speeds only...not how well or how bad anybody bowled.

those were facts, not emotions

yea bowlers bowl to the condition,,,,

in hot weather, conserve energy...............but just b/c pitch is flat doesn't mean u become a tundler too

so weather conditions, not pitch conditions

None of the English bowlers are particularly fast. Broad can bowl fast when he wants to, the others are medium fast.

But Anderson depends on swing, and Tremlett on bounce. Neither of which seem to be on offer here. Broad is the only all track quick they have.

It may be that the speed guns are calibrated in such a way that they show the pace at which the ball reaches the bat as opposed to when the ball is released from the hand.

The pace of the pitch has a big bearing on bowler speeds. If there is bounce and something there, bowlers bowl faster.

But no doubt English speed guns are a bit tricked up. I remember Rhino hitting 156 kh in England. Rhino is a beast and fast but he does not bowl 156kph.

The best way to assess speed is to look at it in reletaive terms.

For eg rank the speeds of the players on any given track.

Then amalgamate the rankings to say X is faster than Y.

Each speed gun seems to have its own set of speeds.

Wahab Riaz is quicker than all Indian bowlers.......We have another bowler (Muhammed Talha) in the squad who is meant to be the quickest in Pakistan ....
Will be interesting to see how quick he is.....

Aizaz Cheema's fastest bowl was at 143 kph, I think that is decent pace for a 32 year old......

And to think that England fans were laughing at Indian bowling speeds all these years is funny.

Tremlett, Anderson and even Bresnan are all trundlers and are pretty useless in subcontinent.

I can gaurantee that these guys will fake injuries when England tours India for a Test series. They will be beaten black and blue by all Flat Track Bullies :sehwag

I remember when Ishant was bowling in 130-140kmph range in India and everyone was laughing at Indias fastest bowler at that time.

Indian bowlers may be wayward, but at least we are not trundlers anymore.

I think Finn would be quick anywhere. He was clocked at 150Ks in India recently. Broad's speeds atm are just stuff

Yeah, those Tremlett delivery speeds looked a bit iffy.

Some of his stuff was carrying quite well, and it was still showing 125-130. Surely can't be right.

I think that's right, Mcgrath used to do the same. Speed gun between 125 and 130 and good bounce.

Tremlett is a big no no on subcontinent tracks, no bounce, no speed, minimal movement. They should've played Finn, extra pace matters in subcontinent.
