Fabio Capello resigns as England manager

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16941457

Quote:
Fabio Capello has resigned as England manager, the Football Association has confirmed.
Capello resigned after a meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne at Wembley.

An FA statement read: "The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England manager."

On Monday, the Italian publicly challenged the FA's decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy.

The FA's statement continued: "The discussions focused on the FA Board's decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello's response through an Italian broadcast interview.

"In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio's resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect."

Bernstein said: "I would like to stress that during [the] meeting and throughout his time as England manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner.

"We have accepted Fabio's resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future."

A media conference with Bernstein and the Club England management team will take place at Wembley Stadium on Thursday at 1200 GMT.

The FA will not be making any further comment until the media conference.

Who will replace him ahead of the European Championship ?

Harry Redknapp ? If so, then who would take over at Tottenham.

Nothing like the English football circus. Another year, another drama.

Because Modric would have to pay out the rest of his contract on a Bosman and due to his wages it would almost be unaffordable for Modric to do that.

Managers salaries are much much lower meaning Redknapp can easily buy out the rest of his contract with the FA's guarantee he will get the money paid back upon gaining the England job.

Its not exactly rocket science.

Thats why you see players never resigning but managers doing so all the time.

I never rated him as England manager.

I totally agree with Gary Linekar, the England manager has to be English. You can't make English players play like the Italians it won't work. England like most sporting teams need to stick to their strength which is quick physical aggressive play.

Redknapp would be ideal but Spurs will not want lose him before the season ends, it could destroy their top four challenge.

england players just need a motivator like Germnay had in Klinsmann in 06.

Harry could do the job just for the euros tbh.

Or Del Boy and Rodney as co-managers since England are going down the Cockney route.

'Ell knock a few 'eads togedda ya know what I mean'

Harry speaking to reporters from his car window. Says his only focus is with Spurs.

Think Harry will take England to the Euros, and go back to Spurs for pre-season. He's done so much for them that I don't think he'll leave that easily.

Euro is around the corner, why would he resign and if he did, why would FA accept it? It be quiet for a new manager to sort things out in couple of months? Did he resign cause of Terry incident?

I don't think its about Terry specifically. At least I hope not because its not worth throwing away all your good work over someone of questionable character like Terry. Also considering Capello himself has sacked him before. Also considering Terry is over-rated.

Its about why they went over his head to make the decision. I think the FA could have convinced him to stay, 5 years without a incident and they always backed him. However, me thinks, maybe they wanted to get rid of him and this way they don't need to pay severance?
