How similar are Farsi and Urdu...

While in Georgia I have decided to learn some languages while I'm here...I have started to learn Russian so it gives me access to Slavic countries but am also looking to start Farsi...I can speak Urdu reasonably well but can't read or write but considering I learned to read and write Georgian without too much trouble I don't envisage Farsi to be a problem...

What I was wondering is how similar vocabulary is between Farsi and Urdu...so for Russian I am aware that Ukrainian is 90% similar vocabulary wise while something like Polish is 60%...

Does anyone know what languages Farsi is similar to in terms of vocabulary?...

I have been talking to my iranian friends and it appears 75% of vocabulary is same in farsi and urdu, its actually grammar and sometimes pronunciation is different.
