Car CD player question...
My car has a factory fitted head unit. I think it was connected to a CD changer at some point but this was removed before the car being sold. Now the problem I have is that when I try to play my CDs from the head unit, it doesn't pkay them. It can play CDs but only what I'd call commercially made ones. So when I burn my own audio CD, not even mp3 cd, it won't play them. Why is this? Is there anyway I can make my home made CDs the same as the genuine factory produced ones? Is there some option you have to select when you burn them?

How old is the car to give us an indication of the age of the cd player?
For cd players to play mp3s they require a modern chipset that became more common post 2005. I had a 2001 Audi that did not play mp3s yet my 2004 vehicle did. It is all to do with the chipset/processor. |

Also what discs are you using if they are music CDs and not mp3 CDs?
Many older players do not like 80 minutes discs and the rewritable ones either. |

Some older CD players do not support RW discs. I have seen some players which plays only factory produced CDs and can not read burnt CDs.
So worth finding out what formats your player (model) supports.

It's a 52 plate Merc ML 270 CDI. Any idea on what the issue might be? I was talking about audio CDs and not mp3 CDs. In other words I'm making audio CDs but it won't play them whereas it does play other 'factory made' CDs.

At you sure the discs are not rewritable? If it helps, my dad has a 2003 E class and his does play self made music CDs but not MP3 CDs but I am quite sure the ML have different audio systems. |

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I think you both might have it spot on. I haven't tried burning one for a few months but I'm pretty sure it would have been CD-RW rather than just CD-R. I'll try this week to get some CD-Rs inshAllah. Lets see if it sorts the problem.

Still no luck. Burnt an audio CD. It was definitely on a CD-R but still didn't work. Now I'm fully stumped.

Try using nero, to create an "audio cd", thats what i used to do. It automatically converts from mp3 to audio format for your CD player, its all a trial and error kind of a thing. Have wasted many a CDs.
