Luke Pomersbach RCB Player arrested for allegedly molesting US woman

New Delhi: More controversy has hit IPL season 5. IPL cricketer Luke Pomersbach, a foreign recruit of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman from the US and allegedly beating up her boyfriend at Delhi five-star hotel, the Maurya Sheraton. The incident reportedly happened after the Delhi Daredevils-Royal Challengers Bangalore match on Thursday evening.

A case has been registered against the 27-year-old Australian player under IPC sections 354 (outraging modesty of woman), 323 (hurt), 454 (lurking house trespass) and 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment). He has been taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi for medical test. Later he will be produced in court.

Zohal Hamid, a US national, was allegedly molested by Mr Pomersbach when they were partying in her room at the hotel. The woman alleged that the player was invited with some common friends from Mumbai in their room for some drinks. She alleged the player followed her to the bedroom and misbehaved with her. A scuffle allegedly broke out after her fiance Sahil intervened. Both foreign nationals were reportedly injured and have been admitted to the Primus hospital.
Meanwhile IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said the IPL had nothing to with this because the incident did not take place in any party organised by it. "Let the law take its course," he said.

Denying the charge that IPL was full of controversies, Mr Shukla said IPL 4 and 5 were free of controversies till now. However, BJP MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad alleged that the IPL "has given rise to many unsavoury things. Today's attempt to rape is one such". He said foreign players were taking advantage of the conditions in India.

The incident comes only a day after Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan was caught in a scuffle with MCA officials at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium on Wednesday night after a match between his team and the Mumbai Indians. The MCA has alleged that the actor had arrived drunk at the stadium after the match and abused and manhandled staff there. The actor has vehemently denied this and said that he was provoked by the highhanded and abusive behaviour of stadium officials.

This also comes very soon after the cash-rich T-20 tournament was rocked by a sting operation conducted by a TV news channel, in which five IPL players were purportedly caught on camera indulging in spot-fixing and other "murky deals." A BCCI inquiry into that will begin today. Ravi Sawani, who heads the BCCI's anti-corruption unit will conduct the inquiry.

The five accused players have been suspended pending the inquiry report.

She didn't behave like a future wife: Sidhartha Mallya's shocking tweets

Quote:
Mumbai: Sidhartha Mallya, Director of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, has tweeted in response to the allegations that his team player, Luke Pomersbach, molested a young woman at a five-star hotel in Delhi on Thursday night.

Mr Pomersbach was arrested on Friday morning by the Delhi Police and granted interim bail.

Mr Mallya tweeted, "The girl who is accusing Luke is saying he hit her 'fiance'...what a load of fX#$%g s#$t. She was all over me last night and asked for me bbm pin, so if he was her fiance she wasn't exactly behaving like a future wife." He also said on Twitter, "luke is in the wrong, then trust me he will face the necessary sanctions. But what this girl is doing is idiotic."

When asked to explain his statements, Mr Mallya said he was simply explaining the facts.

The woman who says Mr Pomersbach molested her says they met at a party and the cricketer insisted on having a drink with her and her fiance. When they refused and she tried to leave the hotel suite, she says the cricketer tried to grab her. When her fiance stepped in, the cricketer allegedly punched him.

Pomersbach is developing a bit of a history of this stuff now.

In 2007 he was suspended for drinking.

In 2009 he was convicted of drunk driving and trying to avoid police.

In 2011 he dropped out of the WA squad with depression.

IMO somebody needs to give up the booze, quickly.

Luke confesses

NEW DELHI: Investigators on Monday claimed that Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach, arrested on charges of molesting an American woman, had told them that he inadvertently touched the victim and was under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place.

Police sources also said that the name of Royal Challengers player KP Appanna has cropped up in the case after he was identified in a CCTV footage. He was allegedly seen accompanying Pomersbach to the room of the victim.

Pomersbach was arrested on Friday after Zohal Hamid alleged that he molested her and hit her fiance Sahil Peerzada when he objected to the cricketer's behaviour. Peerzada was punched in his ear following which he had to undergo a surgery.

Peerzada was released from hospital on Monday after surgery.

On Appanna, a senior police official said, "We have examined the CCTV footages and identified Appanna. We have spoken to him. We are yet to formally question him."

Appanna, a leg spinner who plays for Karnataka in Ranji Trophy, could not be contacted for his comments.

He was allegedly seen with Luke at the corridor of the hotel, the official said, adding they were yet to ascertain whether he entered the room where the victim was staying.

Zohal had alleged that some team members of Luke had pressurised her to withdraw the case against Pomersbach.

What I want to know is what were two cricketers doing inside the hotel room of two american indians, who I am sure were vacationing in India and staying at that hotel?

I can understand you love cricket and all and maybe got a chance to hang out with them at the hotel bar or the lobby but whats the point of inviting them up to your room or letting them in if they are drunk OR TO GET THEM DRUNK ONCE THEY ARE INSIDE YOUR ROOM.

But then again thats just me. I would not ever do that.

Another Twist?

Quote:

Sahil’s room was booked by Deccan Chargers

The much publicised molestation case involving the batsman of Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB), Luke Pomersbach and US national Zohal Hamid, is getting murkier with the emergence of new characters who are central to what really happened on the wee hours of Friday. Moiz and Meraj the two characters in the entire episode are under the police lens.

Meraj is reported to be the friend of Sahil Peerzada. While Meraj flew from Mumbai, Moiz came from Jammu. Moiz and Meraj are party hoppers and prior to coming to the Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB)’s after match party at Maurya, the duo attended the party of boxer Vijender Singh at hotel Leela Kempinski.

The duo then moved to Maurya to be part of the RCB’s after match party at Dublin in Muarya hotel. The question that arises is that who are these two and why were they in the RCB party? Both of them are in construction business and are reported to be in touch with Sahil who is also in the same business. Sahil is the boyfriend of Zohal who was allegedly beaten up by Pomersbach after he objected to his misbehaviour towards his female companion.

The victim in her statement named Apanna of pressurising her to withdraw her complaint against Pomersbach. New Delhi district police registered a case against Pomersbach under various Sections of IPC including Section 354 of IPC (outraging modesty of woman), 323 (hurt), 454 (house trespass) and 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment.

Moiz’s deposition had corroborated the claims of Zohal about what really happened at that night in the hotel. However, the manner in which Sahil Peerzada gained entry into Maurya hotel raised several questions. Room no 1640 in which he had checked in was booked in the name of Deccan Chargers but he managed to procure the room with the help of a former president of Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association.

It would be interesting to note that KP Matthew the tour coordinator of RCB had booked Dublin, the discotheque at Muarya for his team’s party. The party continued till 5 am in the morning that too when there were clear instructions that all pubs and night clubs should pull down their shutters by 1am. New Delhi district police owes an explanation that who allowed the party to go on till that time and what actions they have initiated against the Maurya management.

The footage available with the police clearly shows Pomersbach and Meraj carrying beer bottles in their hands and moving together. There is more than what meets the eye. What was a man in construction business doing with a cricketer in an after match victory party? A police officer said that the investigation was being done on various counts. Meraj entered the washroom and retired to bed. He got up after he heard the commotion outside the room. The footage shows Luke coming to room no 1640 at 4.45 am with Apanna in tow. He was stopped by the hotel guard from entering the room. A police official said that they have recreated the entire sequence of events and role of those involved in the case is being looked into.

Pomersbach furnishes documents for bail

Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach, accused of molesting an American woman in a hotel on Monday submitted his bail bond and other relevant documents to meet the conditions of bail to a city court on which he was granted bail on Saturday. The 27-year-old batsman, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate Navita Kumari Bagha and also submitted the details of a second person, who stood as a surety for him.

The court, which had released Pomersbach on bail on a personal bond of Rs 30,000 along with two sureties of the like amount, accepted his surety bond and other relevant documents. On May 19, Pomersbach had only one surety to stand for him while the court had sought two sureties for bail.

The court had granted bail to Pomersbach saying that no offence under Section 452 of the IPC for ‘house-trespass or wrongful restraint’ is made out against him. Pomersbach was also asked by the court to surrender his passport before it and not to leave the country without its prior permission.

Pomersbach, who has a history of brawls and brush with police in his home country, is accused of outraging the modesty of a woman on the intervening night of May 17-18.

You and I obviously come from completely different backgrounds.

If I am with my wife/fiance at a party or function with a bunch of celebrities, I will have enjoy the time out there or whatever and when its time to go back to my hotel room, we will leave quietly and not invite a bunch of drunk celebrities guys to our room to get drunk further.

That is just asking for trouble.

I may have done it if I was with a bunch of friends who want to invite a couple of famous cricketers to a more private settings, hoping to weasel out an interview for pakpassion and such

But no not in this particualr situation.
