How is Vettori any different from KP?

Was just thinking out aloud about the latest KP fiasco in a bar, and the conversation moved to Dan - and we figured that he's been behaving in just the same way.

He knows that he's a senior enough figure to bully the board and the rest of the team management around; picks and chooses tours at will, didn't he just mention a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to play the WT20? What's going to stop him from contesting the 2015 World Cup in home conditions? Does that mean he has effectively quit bilateral ODI series and only turns up for the big ones? He knows his bowling figures were potentially going to be ruined in India, so he's now also chickened out of that tour. Of course, he's also a firm believer of a window for the IPL, so there.

I guess the only difference is that NZC staffed by Buchanan and Littlejohn and other assorted jokers would have no choice to pick him whenever he does vouch for some playtime, unlike the ECB who can afford to drop him to bring in another player from the domestic circuit. We just don't have that luxury. Jeetan Patel makes me cringe.

All these types with these inflated egos are just the same IMO. A few other names come to mind - Chris Gayle, Tamim Iqbal, Keiron Pollard, Shahid Afridi, Jesse Ryder....the list goes on.

@OP Isn't Vettori got himself injured during 1st test against the WI?

I thought it was due to injury that he was not selected for India touring squad.

Put it this way. If our next assignment was to face the Bangas at home, he would have magically recovered in no time.

LOLz

I guess its all due to players having more say in the picking and choosing of the games that they want to be part of, these days.

You do realize that Vettori's cricket years are over right? One should be glad that he is just playing cricket, personally, I think he barely has very few firepower left to provide something for the team.

And why wouldn't you want him to pick and choose? I think he deserves it. One of the greatest servant for the NZ.

Last time in India , he used defensive tactics in the field, those worked to an extent because Dravid and Laxman are NOT good runners between wickets and are not big hitters.(Aus did it in 2004 to win a series in India, against their nature) Sehwag and Gambhir did well for the opposite reasons.SRT had an off series. Raina was batting at 6 and failed.
This time such tactics won't work because Kohli,Pujara are much better against such tactics.

Vettori and KP are different. Because at KP's age, Vettori wasn't doing what KP is doing. By your logic, Sachin is KP too!

Every one know vettori have served for 15 years and he is legend for New zealand,a very respected figure....
And he is a allrounder so his body tolls much more...

If memory serves me right Vettori dropped himself when he saw that he wasnt performing well in the IPL, despite being captain

And I hardly see Vettori whining about a window for IPL, as well as advertising IPL or simply saying how much he loves India as KP did

I no longer respect KP

By memory, Gregg Chappell was the first to start this bullish, selfish behavior, and is why I have no respect for him. ( along with the underarm incident)...Refusing to tour India when he was captain was disgraceful..

Brother Ian, on the other hand, I have miles of respect for..

This is no argument. KP and Vettori are of the same age.

vettori didn't ditch his country to play for another. Besides, dan didn't do foolish stuff like sending opposition texts. Both are pro ipl. Kp more so. But vettori is smarter at hiding it. Kp barbie etc.. are still children

Are they on the same fitness level?

Can you compare the value for the team between these two?

I say Harry Potter's days are over, and it wouldn't be smart to miss out on easy cash for shorter tourny. KP can bring way more value to his team than Dan. Let's be realistic here and not emotional.

Well no Vettori is not an egomaniac like KP. His decision to semi-retire is fitness related.

I think it was plain to see he could barely run during some games last year. His body can't take the grind.

Vettori has been a great servant to NZ cricket for many years. I watched him make his debut. Comparing his behavior to KP's? Vettori is total class in comparison.

How many years has Vettori played? How many years has KP played? How did Vettori cope with captaincy? What did KP do?

There is no difference, Vettori like Pietersen is an IPL whore, and add Malinga too that list to.

Vettori has been useless last few years with poor returns in Tests, it's his batting that's been keeping him in the squad.

Don't worry, Vettori won't be anywhere near fit enough to play 2015 World Cup.
