Your Biggest Cricketing Regret ?

Mine would have to be deciding at the very last minute against visiting Kenya in 1996. My fathers side of the family are from Kenya and we were all set to go there in October 1996 to visit relatives etc.

We'd also planned to watch the tournament between Kenya, SA, SL and Pakistan, but I bailed out at the last minute - so what did I miss :-

going to watch Pak get spanked by an innings at the Lords test in 2001...

We made a big banner with Pakpassion written in big letters... which was also taken off us on entry..

Not being able to watch the final of the 1992 World Cup and not being in Pakistan to enjoy the celebrations thereafter. My source of live information at that time was a small shortwave radio and I believe it was approximately 2 am Los Angeles time when Pakistan won the World Cup!

There are many

Being a huge fan of Imran Khan's Tigers in the late 80s and 90s...

- Hated them losing in Australia and West Indies.. I believe that was the best chance we had of registering test series win in those countries till the recent tour of Windies which we again drew..
- World Cup 87 semi final loss to Australia at Qaddafi. Imran almost cried that day. We fought bravely but not to be..
- Waqar Younis not playin the 92 world cup because of stress fractures to his back.. Has to pull out just a week before the team left. Devastating. Cant really even imagine how he felt. Even though we won but that was very regrettable Waqar missed out.
- Poor test performances in the late 90s. The ODI tournament under Salim Malik in South Africa in late 90s where Raashid and Sohail blew the horn on match fixing.

needing 45 off 5 overs in a school match. Clubbed it down to 27 off 3.3 and took a massive swing. If i batted sensible we could've won.

Oh, this thread is about Pakistan cricket thread, right!!

Pakistan losing the 99 world cup final. That hurt, still does.

Pakistan losing the 96 world cup game against India. Sohail was my favourite batsman and he was made the scapegoat.

On a personal level - we were in Dubai on holiday and my dad went to watch a couple of games in Sharjah. I was 4 at the time and I didnt want to go - decided that playing with my new collection of jungle animals seemed far more appealling. What I missed out on was Waqar taking a 6fer in one game and Saeed Anwar scoring a century in another

Paying ARY £39 to watch this useless excuse of a seies. And even more getting up at 4.30 am to watch it . This is a joke before the series we were promised seeming wickets and indians were running of to their mama's, but after seeing these pancakes even a cricketer from a street in india would love to come to Pakistan to play.

For me the 99 final in terms of an actual Pakistani cricket match. It was when id just got into cricket properly and to see the side lose in the way did after being the favourites to win the match was heartbreaking to say the least.

Atleast we were able to have emotions. Which I think any sport is about. I call that entertainment - you win some you lose some, you celebrate some and despair at other times.
But this series that has promised so much has delivered nothing . I would rather seen Indians win rather then see what was on show.

You cannot compare losing a World Cup Final with a series where so far two matches have been drawn!!!!

At the end of the day victory for Pakistan, or not seeing them lose counts!!!!

And if you really feel that you would rather see India win than take two drawn matches, can you really still call yourself a fan of Pakistan??

the time I dropped 3 dollies in 3 balls - the bowler was not happy

the time i lost our team the match by giving away a tonne of runs in the 2nd to last over. Only reason i was given the ball was the captain felt "certain" we would not loose the game. The club had not won a game forever and was very excited that finally they would ........

Playing Three Overs Match Right Before Mughrib Prayers In Karachi 1986: It was decided that the moment Mughrib Aadhan will start game will stop: First team made 53 in 3 overs...We batted and made 53 in 2 overs and 5 balls, when Aadhan started...I was to play that last ball having scored 40 out of 53 runs...Although I still regret I was not able to face that last ball, but still there is happiness inside this regret, since we did not miss the prayers...

Chasing 153 in 25 overs taking the side from 20/3 in 4 and then 80/6 in 15 overs to 140 in 24 overs and losing my wicket. I came onto strike on the second ball of the 24th over, but after the bowler delivered 4 dot balls in a row, I took an uncharecteristic charge and nicked to the keeper. Team lost by 1 run in the Inter-University Final. Still sends me into depression....

Biggest cricketing tragedy (for Pak) : Mohammad Zahid....what could have been....

For me: Not being selected for Glamorgan as a teenager. Didnt quite make it-couldnt compete against the might of the 'public school' brigade.

The quarter final loss was tough...very tough. By 99 wins and losses weren't as big an issue. In 96 though to my (young) mind we were the world champions and we just couldn't lose (especially not to india in India). Those Waqar overs...Aamir...Miandad's struggle...

WC99.Getting up at 5 am to get there without a ticket then giving alot of money to an Indian fan who no longer required finals tickets ;)

Dad not letting me play cricket seriously..Playing for under 18's was the quickest bowler in the club (including 1st team) in my school and amongst my peers. Was quicker than Darren gough who btw I have hammered out of the ground (was also a kickass slogger) ;)

I mean I was quick like Sami..quick but crap, no L&L ;)

I never thought we'd win the WC 99, I thought fixers don't deserve it. Retarded logic but it saved some pain I guess.

On a personal level not being allowed to continue playing seriously in high school.

Offcourse I don't want pak to lose. I am a proud pakistani and love everything to do with Pakistan. I am just saying I feel we should have done more to produce pitches that support a good game of Cricket between ball and bat. I love this game and I feel matches like these put people off and serve no purpose. What is the point of playing when there is 99% chance that no team would be a winner. I was just saying, I prefer emotion to boredom when two teams play whether it is negative or postive.

Imran's dismissal at 87 Semi-final, lahore, gaddafi..
tat ball hit nothing......once again that *****, Dickey Bird...struck us.....
it was heart breaking to see pakistan loose, bit by bit.....
I have not seen more shocked people, then that day...shocked..tearful...regrets.....a touch of disbelief...............

Even, when pak was blessed to pull one unlikely WC victory, that match and particulary that decision, is still a thorn in my heart....

Saeed Anwar , Taufeeq Umar , Inzamam Ul Haq , Yousuf Youhana , Younis Khan , Shahid Afridi ,Abdul Razzaq , Rashid Latif , Wasim , Waqar , Shoab Akhtar,

Salim Elahi , Saqlain Mushtaq , Azhar Mehmood , Sami

biggest regret!!!

my greatest regrets not being at the stadium when pak lost to india at the previous world cups

in 1992 second round
1996 at banglore
1999 at england
2003 at southafrica (really a big miss esp rawilpindi express was asked to stop bowling to tendulkar in 3rd over)

i really regret not watching the famous scene from the world cup history

but i guess i wont miss at west indies world cup when pak again losing to india in world cup !!

no

99 quad was better. all these players were playing and were younger and better in form. Also Wasim was a by far a better captain.

not even a comparison to 2003 team. We knew we were not going anywhere with our team in 03.

well on paper 2003 squad was much better. pakistan had just come from zimbabwe wining 2-0 in tests and 5-0 under waqar younis. there was no unity . I agree but 2003 squad wass better by experience and by talent

On a professional cricketing level i regret not going to the pak vs sl match

We had gone to nairobi to visit my mamoon who asked us to accompany him to the game. WE agreed however were so tired from the trip that we couldnt wake up in time and missed watching the afridi massacre live.

On a personal level tho was when i got out on 99, 49, 0 in 3 consecutive club matches
incidentally we lost each one by less than 3 runs!

India losing 2003 world cup final after a great-fightback from a humiliating loss to Australia, also with Tendulkar being in the side, hopefully Tendulkars last world cup in 2007, and with so many young and inexpierenced players who took India to the world cup final in 03, we should get the 07 crown.

What I mean is after getting a low score agaisnt Hollend then the next game India lost to the Aussies badly after that we won 8 games in a row, which all of them was one-sided.

for me its waqar career ..as much as i love wasim and admire him i can't help it but blame him for whatever happend to wicky bhai career in his last few years..do we all remember 99 series vs aus in aus ..hobart test aus was 126 for 5 in 2nd innings chasing 370 to win and tie the series at 1-1...but what did wasim bhai decided to do ..he bowled Waq only 12 overs in first innings and JUST 11 OVERS IN 2ND....and that was not the only time he treated a legend the way he did and why he did coz we all know had waq played a few more odi or test , he would have been the highest wicket taker from pakista in both test and odi....

On a personal level - Dropping an easy catch when the batsmen was on 12 runs, he later went on to score 103.
