Out of favour Sami eyeing Pak comeback

Islamabad: Pakistan`s current fastest bowler Mohammad Sami, who was ignored for the South Africa tour, has claimed he would keep working hard in domestic cricket to regain his place in the national side.

After the retirement of Shoaib Akhtar, Sami has been the quickest of all the present bowlers, however, medium pacers Tanvir Ahmed, Ehsan Adil and Rahat Ali were selected ahead of him for the ongoing tour, the Express Tribune reports.

Sami said Pakistan has several tours in the coming 18 months so he would continue doing well in domestic cricket to earn a recall, adding it was a disappointment to miss out on the South Africa tour because the wickets there are really helpful to fast-bowlers.

Sami added now he just needed to look ahead and he is concentrating on doing well in the ongoing Faysal Bank One-Day Cup.

Sami had a good start in the domestic one-day event as he took three wickets to help the Karachi Dolphins win their first match emphatically.

He knows that after Iqbal qasim it would either be wasim Bari or mohsin Hasan khan or Salim Jafir as one of the people deciding a lead pace bowler for Pak.

And to these individuals Mohammad talha just doesn't have the right "domicile" for them to back his young age and potential.

Something is not right with Sami's entire action. It looks weird and technically broken and not having any symmetry. May be Ian Pont can shed some light on it?
Just look at the pic in OP, seems like he plays cricket reserved for mental retards.

I won't be surprised that he makes another come back. After trying all the youngsters, we will probably only have Gul, Junaid and Irfan as the permenant member. Sami will make it back in the musical chair that will include him and Wahab.

When sami says hes working hard it means that hes run off crying to one of his relatives in the PCB so that they can pull a few strings for his recall.

As long as the likes of Malik and Farhat continue to be selected for Pakistan, it's inevitable players like Sami will also retain hope of a comeback.

ball 2: same line hurrying batsman slightly but always in control, no swing ball coming out straight as an arrow
ball 3: this is a brute of a delivery that lifts from nowhere taking the handle and kamran akmal DROPS it! the simplest of chances----ball runs away for FOUR
ball 4: four! short and wide put away easily, rubbing salt in to the wounds
ball 5: mis-field at mid wicket allows batsmen to scamper a single

Yes.

Sami was a world beater. Kamran is to blame.

Any other opinions ? While you're on a roll...

Sami's 32 years old. He's played over a 100 international matches now, he is the very definition of a Tried and Tested Failure. You know you've got a problem when you look back on a player's career and you get more memories of him getting tonked than of him running through wickets.

His last match where he got tonked by Angelo Matthews 15 runs, 15 runs, needed from the last over, and this is how the over went: wide, 2 runs, 6, 2 runs, and a 6. Finished. 2 balls to spare.

Then there's that lovely memory of Yuvraj Singh destroying Sami in my very hometown of Karachi in 2006 to take the series, defeating Pakistan at home. Yuvraj Singh 107* from 93.

Here's the cricinfo commentary:
46.1. Mohammad Sami to Yuvraj Singh, 1 run, full down leg side, Yuvraj Singh flicks it away to deep square leg for an easy single
46.3.Mohammad Sami to Dhoni, SIX, good length delivery outside the off stump and that's pounded over the long-off fence, Dhoni on the rampage now
46.4.Mohammad Sami to Dhoni, SIX,another one! fuller and on the stumps, this time Dhoni picks up the long-on fence and clears it by a long long way, amazing hit
46.5.Mohammad Sami to Dhoni, 1 run, down the leg side, turned away to fine leg and the single takes India to victory!

That is just the ODIs. His Test average of 52 pretty much speaks for itself.

I feel for Sami, I really do. I believe he's an honest trier, he's a hardworker. But let's face the facts. He made his ODI debut in April 2001. It's been 12 years. He was 20 years old when he debuted. He's 32 years old now. He hasnt blossomed or polished, on the contrary, he is the exact replica of the bowler he was 12 years ago; an agonizing spraygun with the occasional odd gem.

Interesting fact; Farhat debuted in 2001 as well, just 2 months before Sami. He is still in the team. Tells us something about our cricket doesnt it?

nope, it basically says that sami's career is about one good ball, one dropped chance, and 4 balls that are bad/ not good enough to put international batsmen under pressure.

he has no heart.
and thats why he will not succeed.
looks so nervous on every comeback
you can teach an athlete many things, but not heart
he is not the first Pakistani bowler to have chances dropped on him
Pakistani bowlers take fielders out of the equation

The biggest joke is...

Sami was actualy pretty good in onedays!! His record speaks for it self.

But the selectors for some reason kept picking him for tests rather then onedays.

In test matches I dont want to see Sami ever again. In onedays however, i'll be happy for him to be given an extended run.

Blunder in selection policy if there ever was one!

The sad thing is about 2003 just after the world cup debacle he was turning into a damn good bowler. On the odi tour to england in 03 he was very good consistently at 90mph plus with swing and decent control

Sad but everyone inc himself have just got to face the fact that hes not cut out to perform at the highest level

Sami was never used by selectors properly.
He was always good in ODI and T20s. Test is where the problem is and for some reason he keeps getting selecting for that after making comebacks. If you want to use Sami, keep him away from tests. His # of comebacks are higher than his test bowling average.

this guy has made more combacks then our entire players in history combined..... He has the worst test average ever that only ishant sharma may be able to break. I can never forget that last over in that ODI.... mathews tonked him soo brutally.

The sad and perhaps the most pathetic thing is that he will get another chance....
