Boucher may be a reasonable batsman but he is a crap keeper. Boucher was dropped from the S.A side recently because of the number of byes he gave.

RH, you are confusing batting abilities with keeping ability.

Chappel was talking in terms of purely wicket keeping ability. Of course Gilchrist is the best when you consider his batting. However, on purely wicketkeeping grounds, Gilchrist is not one of the best you will ever see, neither is Boucher who has a habit of dropping catches every now and then. Sangakarra is not even regular with the gloves while Jones of England is struggling. India is also struggling finding a reliable wicket keeper and the New Zealander is OK behind the stumps.

That leaves us with Kamran Akmal, the best in the business with the gloves.

lets not forget about our good friend parthiv patel guys...the future of indian keeping! :-)

it took him 0.28 seconds to stump...fast reflexes i'd say, and it was an amazingly important wicket

and he saved many runs in the game with his diving left right and everywhere possible...

he was one of the players that did not give up even when defeat was more or less staring us in the face...him afridi and rana, all had awesome spirit, the never say die attitude!

and ian chappel did continuously admire his work behind the stumps

I think we have a good future in Kamran Akmal after seeing saving that wide from Afridi total 100% he has given for that ball the catch up. He only needs to work out more on his batting

But still remember he is also a fine batsman, he only needs to work more on his batting. He is the first pakistani wicketkeeper ever in ODI cricket to score a 100 that is quiet intresting, and not only that he took only 10 or 11 games to do it, whyle most of the other Wicketkeepers in the game take an time to score hunderd !

Akmal's glovework is improving and I've been impressed with him, although I think he tends to stand too far back to the pacemen at times.

well the thing with Akmal is that he has the talnet in regards to his Keeping so even though many ppers say to play him as just a batsman is a valid statment though with him having some great keeping talent, he should be allowed to carry on as a keeper/batsman and hope that he regians form as their is nor arguemnt that he is a great batsman but for 2 years i believe he has had trouble with his confidnece as when he played in australia, his keeping was very good but i think with his keeping it is more in regards of confidence than it is of skill and i back him 110% for him to make a quick return to pak team and i wont be suprised if he selected ahead of Safraz who does deserve a chance in the international arena as his keeping is outstandanding but hopefully his batting will improve but i feel Kami has the talent to be one of the best keeper/batsman off all time and i do believe he could be a potential future captain for Pakistan. he thrives under pressure and he does possess a cool head and good cricket brain so if he manages to sort his keeping out and is consistent behind the stumps then u never know

but i do feel when Akmal was at his best he was the best glovesman as he took some outstanding catches during that period. Insh'Allah he returns to form qucikly and hope to see competition between the many talented keepers that Pakistan has at this moment

i feel that if now practise matches are played as the weather in Lahore looks to be raining for the next 4 days and their has been reports of moving to Karachi but if no matches have been played then i trust the selectors to know that Akhtar will make it into the final 15 Insh'Allah

^^ This whole process of checking Akhtar out in the practice matches is just to appease the haters in Pakistan who don't want him in the team due to his fitness. Everyone knows that if Akhtar lasts the practice matches he will play in the Champions Trophy no matter what. It doesn't really matter if he performs in those practice matches or if he gets hammered in those matches. In the end all those selectors want to do is get the media to give news of how Akhtar's doing to the rest of Pakistan and show that he is fit enough to play and then they will select him without having any random people like Javed Miandad or Sarfraz Nawaz criticizing them abusively.

There must be something horribly wrong with the training system & the person himself. I can remember in early 2005 at Sydney (Asif debut Test), Danish took 6/7 wickets & KAkmal kept so immaculately that IChappel was full of praise (he hardly praises non Aussies, especially Pakistanis. Used to do with the Indians as well but now $ talks & sometimes keeps silent).

KAkmal scored a match winning 134 vs. WI as well after that Test & through-out the Series he batted well & kept brilliantly. I can recall IChappel once saying (something like)- "Among the upcoming Keepers, this kid (Kami was only 23/24 then) looks to be the best both in front and behind the wickets, especially his glove works against spinners is probably the best I have seen for long time”. He kept brilliantly & played an outstanding innings @ Karachi against India within a year

So true that, Dhoni once considered playing as a specialist batsman & only kept keeping not risking his Test place (I think DKartik replaced him as Test keeper in Pak tour of India in 2005/06). Over the last 5 years KAkmal was never pushed by the selectors & had his good friend Malik leading the side mostly. He has good connections in PCB & only another Akmal could dislodge him from the Test team. Kami can again become a good contender on merit if the selectors keep a healthy competition between him, Sarfaraz, Salman & Adnan in 3 formats rather than setting double standards.

Kamran Akmal should never ever be close to the Pakistan team let alone play for Pakistan....EVERRRRRRRRRR.

We have selected Salman, so, it is better that we give him extended (atleast 2 years) run and if after that extended period he fails then we have Sarfaraz waiting.

- that's all I have for this thread. It seems like many of us have forgotten how good he WAS. People say he just started well with the bat and that's what kept him going, but actually he was a world class keeper, as you can see with the opening few posts, by respectable posters.
