Prince Hamed Threatened in Prison: Hid in His Jail Cell
Well Well...
Ron Moore And Victoria Ward reporting for the mirror.co.uk reveal, PRINCE Naseem Hamed's prison minders last night said the boxer is living in fear of the hardmen in his prison. New released prison inmate, Colin George who indicated he helped watch Hamed's back in prison, told the Mirror UK that Hamed spent days hidding in his cell - he was too petrified to leave to even eat, exercise or wash. Colin added to the Mirror: "As soon as Naseem arrived, he was showered with threats. People were warning him they would smash him up and do him over, if he thought he was tougher than them. Cons that were keen to make a name for themselves were always in Naseem's face. He got a lot of verbal from the other cons and you could see the shock in his eyes. When he first came in, he wouldn't eat, he wouldn't mix, he wouldn't train. You may think Moorland is a soft option, but you'd be wrong. There are some vicious boys in there. They transfer a lot of higher risk prisoners to Moorland because of overcrowding at other jails. And when five or six boys who are tooled up surround you, threaten you and then go mental on you and leave you for dead, what chance do you have?" The Mirror report say that Prince did eventually come out of his cell. He began training in the prison's gym. Colin told the Mirror: "I believe in my heart of hearts that he will box again because he's told me so. He wants to be back in the ring. He wants to do it for his family." "He spends a lot of time watching TV in his cell. He doesn't like mixing as there's still an undercurrent of friction." Hopkins wasn't a world champion when he was sent to Holmesburg to begin what eventually became a 56-month stretch for strong-arm robbery. But the teenaged Hopkins nonetheless had to send a message that he was not someone to be messed with, which is why he promptly sought out one of the toughest inmates and punched the guy's teeth out.
"My situation was totally different in that Prince Naseem went to prison after he became a star in boxing," Hopkins said. "But whoever you are, you can't allow yourself to become bait. "What he should have done is go out in the block, look everybody in the face and say, `I'm here to do my time, peacefully, but if somebody wants to test me, here I am.' "And somebody would test him. But you survive by any means necessary." |
