Gul, Nazir, Razzaq, Kaneria, Afridi, Malik?

Oh dear.

If it is just a knock on the knee then Sami should be fine.

Remember though, there is still no official word on Asif. So until we hear that just chill out and don't press the panic button.

i think this game will be a draw, the conditions in London have been sunny all week and are expected to stay that way during the 1st test.

With both attacks without their main bowlers its gonna be a highscoring batsman dominated game IMO. Therefore a DRAW

I wouldnt lose hope guys. I think if there's one thing we can say for certain about Inzi's team, its that theyre at their best in the face of adversity. Lets keep the faith and get behind them. They will make us proud yet again.

England have a habit of screwing up and making themselves look like a bunch of schoolgirls when you least expect them to. We are still more than capable of winning this match. Have a look at our bowling attack in Bangalore (Sami and Razzaq opening, followed by Afridi, Arshad and Kaneria) and you will see that to right Pakistan off is something you do entirely at your own peril. Who would have thought those five would get 20 Indian wickets?

This is what happened to Sami....

"The one moment of note in the 35 minutes of play possible came when left-hander Cook clipped to midwicket off Butt and the ball ricocheted off the knee of Mohammad Sami for four.

Sami had strapping applied to his left knee, another blow for Pakistan who are already without injured duo Shoaib Akhtar and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and hope Mohammad Asif will overcome an elbow problem. "

If you ask me, I am sitting here laughing my head off (honestly) at the injuries of Sami and Asif. It seems to be the competition of who can get themselves injured more. As soon as I saw the heading, I cracked up. I am not kidding. How can people not find this funny (and a bit suspicious)???

INJURY LIST: Michael Vaughan, Shoaib Akhtar, Rana Naved, Simon Jones, Ashley Giles (yes), Mohammad Sami, Mohammad Asif, Andrew Flintoff...who did I miss?

In those days there was one test series every two years meaning hardly 3 or 4 test in one year if you cant even stay fit for that then might aswell do something else.

exactly. And not 50 ODIs every year either.

So in reality he wasn't that fit at all and probably wouldn't even last 2 seconds in today's game. He'd be slaughtered.

Injured Asif and Sami doubt for first Test

Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sami, the Pakistan fast bowlers, have both sustained injuries to put their participation in the first Test against England on Thursday in doubt.

It had been expected that Asif would shoulder the responsibility of leading the bowling attack for Pakistan in the absence of Shoaib Akhtar (ankle) and Rana Naved-ul Hasan (groin). However according to reports in today's Sunday Telegraph, Zaheer Abbas - the team's tour manager - has confirmed Pakistan have called up Samiullah Niazi, the left-arm medium-pacer. Abbas commented that Asif was "almost certainly" out of the first Test due to an injury to his right elbow, which has received an injection.

To compound matters Sami was hit on the right knee while fielding for Pakistan on the final day of their warm-up game against England A at Canterbury.

I didn't read the Trueman thread so don't know the context of discussion here - but Nauman, let me assure you that cricketers in those days did play a lot of cricket - all international cricketers regularly played in domestic matches (and there wasn't much game b/w them) and there was no concept of holding back in domestic cricket.

I felt exactly like you all did in the buildup to our first test v India this year, when we had half a team left it seemed. However we came out of that test and eventually that series, with a lot of credit.

I am sure Pakistan will compete, though in the last month or so its fair to say their chances of victory have lowered quite a bit.

it would be easy to write off Pak's chances at Lords and I would love to say they have no chance, but I can't say that with confidence. in case anyone hasnt noticed, England have been fairly rubbish since the Ashes apart from a test here and there, and make hard work of any kind of challenge these days, however easy it seems on paper.
