Can't sleep...need help!

For the past 3 weeks i am having a very hard time trying to fall asleep! Normally it took me no more than 20 to 25 mins to fall asleep but now it takes me 2 or 3 hours AFTER turning off all my bedroom lights!!

So any tips? How can i fall asleep faster?

You have too much on your mind.

Take a course by an organization called Art of Living - they will teach you a technique called ujjai breathing

Why don't you download some audio books and burn them on mp3 disc and play them on mp3 player or computer.....Works wonders and improves ones vocabulary too....My other tips are take a hot shower, drink warm milk, or exercise before going o bed.....

Are you falling asleep during the day? This may be a possible reason as to why you aren't falling asleep faster. If you are, then try to not fall asleep during the day, instead do something to busy yourself so that your mind doesn't wander to how tired you are.

Dont drink anything with caffeine in it during the few hours before your going to sleep.

Make sure you eat your supper a couple of hours before you want to go to bed.

Having a shower before getting into bed can help.

Try buying a few more sets of bedsheets and change them every other day, its always easier to fall asleep in fresh clean sheets.

Don't watch any television in the hour before you sleep.

Of course all the above seems a bit extreme but if you cant sleep then it's worth it.

Just wake up early, keep yourself busy during the day with activities. Try to get into a routine, for example, wake up between 8-9, and sleep by 12, do that consistently for a week and you will be fine.

I ocassionally take sleeping pills when I just can't sleep. I find it easier to sleep when I'm tired so it's good to get a good workout during the day, spraying lavender on the bed also helps.

How about reading something realted to the religion? Shaitaan will put you to sleep if not anything else. Plus, you'll gain rewards for having read/ recited the same for the entire period that you sleep.

A question, is not being able to sleep seriously harmful?

Coz really I would love not to sleep so I can get important things done in that time.

Good point. That seems to work for most Muslims during Shab-E-Baraat

Taking any sort of pill and medication is harmful to you at some level. When you are taking it for an illness or bemaari then usually the good outweighs any harm. We all underestimate the healing power of our own bodies.

There was a report a couple of years ago where GP's admitted to giving placebo's to a lot of their patients and achieving the same effect as giving them actual pills.

Just think about the fact that by taking sleeping pills you are basically tricking/forcing your brain to sleep. Cant be healthy.

You should try to get between 6 to 8 hours of sleep a night, your hair grows while you sleep and for children their bones grow, etc.

The best time to sleep is at night because of something to do with melatonin levels. According to a recent study women who stay awake at night are more likely to develop breast cancer

Sleep is important.
I think that happens to me at times, like I'm using my PC, I feel sleepy, I turn it off, go to bed and it feels like I will fall asleep any minute now but hours pass by and I'm still there. Finally I get up and back on the PC. But yes sleep is important.

Cavin yar it's kinda true, sometimes when my sleeping schedule is ruined and I'm sleepy, I rest my head back on the chair and close my eyes for about 10 minutes, you do feel refreshed a bit after that.

there are drugs for this problem

its not a real problem if you haven't exhausted yourself during the day,
if you have, try reading some classic american novels with the light dimly on
your eyes will suffer but you will fall asleep.

some good suggestions here, clearing the mind is essential. forget you even started this thread when you go to bed tonight.

i would just repeat the following, a bit like a chant:

"soja ... soja varna gabbar singh ajaiga"

my ex-roommate from talagang district had another cure for this problem, one of the reasons why he is no longer my roommate.
