sami paradox

Everyone says he is the savior to our bowling department, I have never really facied his bowling it is to ordinary. he doesnt even have a stock ball. his stock ball is the straight 93 mph ball.this ball in world cricket will actually go a far way in the stand. Second of all his trip to australia proved that australia a bowlers paradise cant even help him. his action gets no movement off the pitch because he skids the ball. and bob woolmer said it him self in a an email to me that these guys dont have the ability to swing the ball because of the speed. he will have to learn that wasim akram and waqar younis bowled smart. Wasim akram could swing the ball both ways and then his bouncers would be one which was concealed so the batsmen could only see it at the last second. He could take the batsmen by suprise. And let me say this if you talk to any of these guys and my uncle imran. They never backed off they bowled at the batsmen imran developed a bouncer which speared in wide at the throught. He said there were times that it was necessary to stop the inform batsmen. you bowl at his body and try hurt him. this in ability and fight seperates our bowlers today. If not the india series will see alot of ball air into the boundary.

Sami is the most overrated player in the game at the moment. At least Shaoib can redeem himself by putting in great spells of bowling.

I would nt have Sami in the team at all. No wonder he has been working on his fielding-its the only reason he can get in to the team.

He is no paradox. Just a bad selection. He has woefully underperformed over the last 2 years.

He is no longer potential. Just look at 'the Afridi'...thats how you grab onto opportunity and make yourself indespensible. For Christs sake. look at what Ashley Giles has done in the last 12 months !!!

Sami...thanks, but now its time to bring someone in who may actually offer some support to Shaoib & Danish.

Succesful teams tend to have fast bowlers that hunt in pairs-what has Sami contributed in his partnesrhip with Shoaib?

Sami is definitely the most unlucky bowler I have ever seen. The amount of times he has had inside edges go for four, catches drop short, top edges flying to nowhere and falling safely etc I have lost count

He will come good. We just have to show faith in him in the same way that England showed faith in Harmisson.

He's one of my favorite players and I agree with Hash that he's been unlucky.

But seriously, he's an idiot. He tries real hard, but he doesnt think, no variation, always bowling 'hit-me' balls with the usual array of no-balls, and letting the pressure off the batsmen. You expect that from a backup seamer like Razzaq, but not a strike bowler. When he plays with Akhtar, he competes for pace, and he can't win. I do feel he's a very different player without Akhtar at the other end, he'll improve with time and he's very lucky that there's no one to challenge his potency in our reserves.

Sami has beeen really unimpressive in the last few matches. His last good performance was against NZ when he took a few wickets and made the match interesting. He pitches quite a few short balls and movement off the seam. I think we should preserve him for ODI's and find better bowlers for Tests. I would pick rana ahead of Sami in tests

I think that you guys are being a little harsh on him. He is still around the same age as Khalil, Rao, Irshad etc.. and has definitely had his moments (ie. verus NZ). He was also an absloute star in County cricket.

The thinking part of his game will come with experience and direction. Currently there is no real senior bowler on the team that can provide this to him. I also don't think that you can doubt his dedication. Also I don't think that he bowls well in tandem with Akhtar for whatever reason (worse ends, speed competitions, etc..).

I really do hope that we persist with him as a strike bowler and provide him the guidance to start setting up his oppenents for dismissals. Way too talented and intense to give up on.

Wasn't he the leading wicket taker in Odi's in 2003 or 2004

He's got all the tools, it's easier to work with somone whos got basic tools than moulding somoene who doesnt have gifts.

Richard Hadlee had a horrible start to Test Cricket, now we say Sir before his name.

When he first came on the scene he had an excellent inswinging yorker, bowled perfect outswingers with the seam in perfect position. However his bowling technique seems to have suffered and he has become an erratic and indifferent bowler.

I dont think he thinks much about each delivery, rather just bowls each ball as fast as he can.

Honestly Speaking, i have never seen Sami ever get a wicket through genuine swing, or what qualify as Swinging Yorkers, and offcourse never seen him get a wicket from seem movement either.

and this observation includes all the highlights, and the games available on the web.

it was only a matter of time before batsmen figured him out.

lets just hope he starting moving the ball after his return.

Have you never seen him bowling against New Zealand in New Zealand. He got 5/36 on his debut on the last day of a Test Match in 2001. What about the first Test of the 2003 series. Sami bowled 10 overs on the trot and we had new zealand at 96/8. We had slim chances of a victory but these were ruined by the rain.

OK he has been inconsistent but he is still very young. Our problem in general is that we put players in too early before they have fully developed as cricketers and thus their inexperience leads to poor stats.

If Sami was an Aussie or Englishmen then his talent would have been nurtured more before he made his debut and he would probably have better stats as a result of this.

He is also a very good lower order batsmen and is willing to do what is best for the team unlike the kotha.

Overload that is a bit harsh, when Sami first came on the scene and for a couple of years he used to swing the new ball and had a very good yorker.
It's just in the last 18months that he has lost the ability to swing the new ball, and bowl the yorker consistently.

But having seen Rao, Riaz, Asif, Khalil, if they are the best of what we have in Pakistan I can understand why Paksitan have perservered with Sami for so long. He has more talent than all of them, just needs to get his confidence back and start swinging the ball.

Once he does that he will be dangerous and will pickup the wicket with his additional pace.

You can learn to swing the ball again but you can't add that yard of pace that Sami has to the other bowlers.

In Pakistan cricket some players come and are just kicked out after a few bad performances and their name just becomes history and for others they just keep getting chances and chances.

Agree with Waheed, but you must understand that its because he's so talented that we're so upset. Who really cares if our mediocre medium pacers like Riaz, Khalil, Rao don't pan out? But Sami, he has the talent, but he continues to frustrate us.

When he first burst on to the scene, I was really excited as I heard his name mentioned as a fierce and quick tearaway and I was not disappointed when I saw him in action. Even after his failures in his first few years, like many I attributed it to him being in and out due to Wasim, Waqar, and Shoaib. But there's no excuses now...its really Sami's fault.

He needs a good wicket taking spell under his belt to give him some confidence. One wouldve hoped he achieved that in Aus, but missing a few games due to injury may/may not have lost him that opportunity.

Still nevertheless lets remember he has just come back from injury and will hopefully get a chance to produce that great spell we know he is capable of. If not then perhaps the best thing for his career in the long term would be a short term 'rest' out of the team.

Balaji had an average of 42 at the start of this test yet he was successful. I have hope that even after India reaching 184-1 at stumps, we still have the ability to bowl them out whilst conceding a small lead. If Taufeeq had taken that catch, Sami would have been a hero, he would have had more confidence and might have taken more wickets.

Hopefully, we will come back tomorrow with a plan and restrict the indians to no more than 350-400 (hopefully!)

Sami is unlucky, imagine if that catch had been taken he would have relaxed, been rythmical and would have been swinging it.

I agree the guy is probably the dumbest bowler around, has no idea about wot cricket is, cos he cant outthink the batsmen(even sum1 as dumb as Sehwag)

He needs to start getting himself out of tough situations bcos they r gonna come all the time

Somebody mentioned that Sehwag is a dumb batsman..Couldnt be farther away from truth..The guy is a shrewd cricketer and dont be misled by his dont-care attitude..His cricket savvy shows even when he is bowling..Also,inspite of common opinion which thinks that he never changed his game,he has infact changed his game..He was initially trying to slam-bang every delivery..Nowadays in tests,he picks the ball to hit..Has become more patient(by his standards) and is ready to quiten down (last 1hr today)...
What that shows is that he is constantly thinking abt the game and the big picture..His getting out late today would have spoilt an otherwise great day today..plus given a boost to the Pak bowlers..Now they have to worry abt him tomorrow morning before even thinking abt Sachin,Laxman,Ganguly etc..We will see how the Pak bowlers perform..They will be under even more pressure after the assault by him today...Normally,bowlers are at their best when they are relaxed..Sehwag at the crease doesnt allow that..Tomorrow is gonna be interesting..
btw..ppl arent talking too much abt Sachin..but beware of him..He is on the precipice of a record(currently 34 tons-equal with Sunny) and he will be deadly if he comes in after a great start under sunny conditions.

I still say leave kotha at home and let Rana and Sami have a proper run during the 3 test matches.

To those that think Sami was unlucky today...get real!

Caught off a no-ball; a plumb LBW off a no-ball!

The only thing Sami can deliver with any consistency is MEDIOCRITY!!! (2 years of it!)

Best of luck to him hope he does good in the current series.

Oxy not only he would have gotten wickets but pakistan would have been in a good position in this test had those catches of him been held...so lets not blame him for what others should have done.

Lets be fair it is abt the current matches not his career and today he was very good kept it tight n picked up 2 wickets as well

The only paradox about Sami is that

1. He is rubbish
2. Permanent member of an international side.

These two facts dont reconcile. That is the paradox
