'70% chance of Shoaib coming to India' - Razzak

'70 pc chance of Shoaib coming to India'

NEW DELHI: Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar’s visit to India now has another hurdle. According to Dr Tauseef Razzak, a Lahore-based physiotherapist who was with the Pakistan team till last year, said that the fast bowler has a 70 per cent chance of making the India tour.

“Shoaib is suffering from a hamstring strain of the second degree. He will need at least four weeks to get back in shape. I can’t say if he can make the Indian tour but I’m trying,’’ Razzak told TOI on Tuesday.

Shoaib, who was called back midway during Pakistan’s ongoing Australia tour, met the physio in Lahore on Tuesday. “The doctor who checked him in Australia couldn’t understand the problem. Shoaib is flatfooted but still runs fast. Considering that and his biomechanics, his fatigue factor is really high. To my mind he shouldn’t have played the third Test in Sydney,’’ said Razzak.

Shoaib, on his part, sounded optimistic while informing he would not cut down on his run-up “even if it meant more injuries’’. “People think it’s to do with hype and TV but it’s just not me with a shorter approach. I tried it several times but I don’t feel in good rhythm,’’ Shoaib told TOI from Lahore.

Shoaib could invite PCB’s ire by going to a physio without its permission. “Razzak understands my body better than anyone. He has worked with me for five years,’’ said Shoaib.

Here we go.... so now he has a physio without PCBs permission !! another little crisis in the making ! Why cant he make things easier for himself ! He is a good bowler - make no mistake - he just needs to sort out the other stuff..

Also, pray tell , what does 70% chance mean in real terms ? Can a team selection be made on a 70% chance of fitness !

I don't think PCB will make a issue over Shoaib going over to Razzak. He knows his injury history alot better....
I think that Shahryar has already stated that only a 100% fit Shoaib will be considered for selection.
