YK - All speculations until he gives us the real reason.

Net is full of all kinds of reasons - off course all guesses right now - for YK's refusal to captain the national side for CT.

For example;
1) "Dummy" Captain - by Younis Khan (Cricinfo).
2) Personal Issues - by Bob Woolmer (Cricinfo).
3) Seniors don't want him as captain (Cricinfo).
4) Treatment by manager Talat Ali (Jang Newspaper).
5) Did not want Faisal Iqbal ((Jang Newspaper).
Wanted Asim kamal instead (ESPN).
6) YK wants to be a captain permanently (PP).
7) Does not want Inzi's interference (googly).

Lets examine them one by one.

1) "Dummy" Captain - by Younis Khan (Cricinfo).
Lets define "dummy" captain first. To me the dummy captain is who would bow to all PCB orders and will not and should not question any PCB decisions that effect the team - be it selection of the team or other thing.

Now, coming from YK mouth, this can not be a speculation......but the million $$ question is that what was the point/task/decision that was FORCED on YK by PCB that he had to quit instead of just agreeing blindly.

2) Personal Issues - by Bob Woolmer (Cricinfo).
To me, this is one of the most confusing comments. What kind of personal issues? I am sure, Bob is not talking about his personal life - like family and friends!
Could it be getting along with Sheharyar Khan, Saleem Altaf, Wasim Bari, Talat Ali or some other players? But if these are the issues, then these NOT personal issues, these are professional issues. Why did Bob call them "personal"?

3) Seniors don't want him as captain (Cricinfo).
This is reason that most people are "wanting" to believe. You tend to agree with it since Younis has had public altercations with Inzi (WC 2003) and Afrid (in WI). God knows how many altercations he has had with other players in the dressing room that we don't know of. Given his hot headedness, may be he is not wanted at captain. Now, having said that we also saw softer, pleasant, popular side of the person/captain when ever he was given a chance to stand-in in place of Inzi. Karachi test is the prime example. So, I find it very hard to believe that the seniors did not want him; specially Yousaf. If I have to guess, it has to be Afridi or Akhtar but then again I don't think this is the case. We'll have to wait to see what comes out later.

4) Treatment by manager Talat Ali (Jang Newspaper).

What treatment? What did Talat do to YK in last week or so to intimidate him that he decided to quit. Lets assume YK did not Talat Ali.....well, YK knows very well that managers are not permanent. So, even if he hated Talat, I am sure any captain could tolerate a "bad" manager for one tournament or series....unless Talat slapped him in the face, if thats what Jang means by "treatment by Talat Ali".

5) Did not want Faisal Iqbal ((Jang Newspaper).
If YK was NOT happy with Faisal's selection then it was Jang who reported that YK agreed to Faisal's selection. Plus, YK should have known that he had an option of not even playing Faisal in playing eleven if Malik, Hafeez and Farhat were picked So, I don't think this would have been a reason.
Wanted Asim kamal instead (ESPN).
Well, you don't quit over one player selection when you are a temporary captain.....even though of all the neglected middle order batsmen, I'd love to have Asim in test team and at least tried in 5-10 ODIs consecatively!

6) He wants to be a captain permanently (PP).

Most ridiculous reason, in my opinion. This can NOT be true at all because first of all, everybody knows that Inzi wants to play in WC....so, if what makes YK think that Inzi will be happy if YK was made captain for the WC and will not quit if he (Inzi) is not made captain? So, does YK not want Inzi in the team at all????? I find it really hard to believe.

7) Does not want Inzi's interference (googly).
"Inzamam wanting a large say in the happenings of the ICC CT even though not part of the team in terms of team selection, playing XI and even on field strategies(if he will travel to India)."
That is a good one. After winning Karachi test, YK admitted that Inzi kept guiding him and kep giving him valuable pointers....so, if he was not happy, then why say it in public?
Plus, like googly said, I don't think was going to India!

Best Case Scenario.
I hope YK's refusal is based on some really, really, valid reason and whatever the issue is, it can be resolved because.......
a) if it is between YK and players, then this shows that all the public displays of "unity" within the team were false. This could have long term effect of team performance.
b) if it is between YK and PCB then I hope to God that YK's career is NOT over.

Any other specualtion, I missed???

Without starting a new thread i would like to say that history is repeating itself! Remember only 8 or 9 months before the 2003 WC we had beaten AUS in AUS, won around 10 ODis in a row but then everything fell apart! So many of the important players didn't play the test series in Sharjah, people didn't want Waqar as the captain and God knows what else. All we know is that the end result was that the most talented team in 2003 was knocked out without winning a match against an established nation!

I doubt it, for PCB and YK have kissed and made up the real reasons will remain hidden.

Here are my speculations from another thread:

Quote:
Younis Khan has always come across as a man of high integrity and its difficult to imagine that it is his fault in the episode specially because he is the one with most to lose here. Captaincy for sure in the near future and maybe even a spot in the team. He has also come across as someone who enjoys taking up the role of a leader and was a very confident captain whenever given the opportunity. It must have taken something very serious for things to have come to this stage. Here are a few of my speculations:

1. Inzamam wanting a large say in the happenings of the ICC CT even though not part of the team in terms of team selection, playing XI and even on field strategies(if he will travel to India).

2. Yousuf, instigated by support from inside the team(likely candidates Afridi and Akhtar) gaining the confidence that he has internal team support and wanting to take up captaincy.

3. The PCB refusing to admit some or all of Younis Khan's demands with regards to team selection.

Could be some other things as well but my guess is that its one of the above and Younis Khan took the right step to preserve his integrity as the skipper because ultimately the buck would have stopped at him even if his authority was being undermined internally.

The guy is an A1 clown. If he had any sense he would have made a proper statement which wouldnt leave people gossiping. If any of the reasons above are the causes then he should have either been bold and named names or made a tactful statement which would have averted gossip and innuendo.

Instead he has acted hasitly like an ill educated anarchist.

Very good observation.....but unfortunately, we are the most un-diplomatic un-tactful people. I tend to agree with you only becuase now PCB is saying that he resigned WITHOUT consulting to them......which if true, totally fits your comments. But then again, how do you know PCB is telling truth?

If he explained his reasons then the PCB wouldnt have a leg to stand on. Vast majority of the public dont like the current PCB especially after the Oval fiasco, therfore if any player and especially one with his seniority voiced disagreement it would have hastened the end of Shariar Khan and co. Its obvious Shariar Khan has lost complete control.

inzi may well be trying to undermine his position and he can do so in numerous ways. not like he hasn't hurt the cause of others before him or not gotten into things when he shouldn't have in the past

As i said elsewhere, inzi is a shady character, I feel and he likes to exert his authority and keep his control, his blackmail being a good example

you missed this one - think it through

Asim Kamal has not been picked since WI last yr

He has never been picked by Bob for any of his ODI squads

Suddenly YK wants Asim ahead of Faisal who regularly gets picked by BW/Inzi

Could YK have had an argument with BW/Inzi

This could be a zionist/india conspiracy if you ask me...just like them to get our little skipper to resign in a huff and puff so pakistani yoot of today start fretting about the fortunes of our team rather than happily blowing up things.

Yeah just got back to the uk, will start reading when back

This is what one of my friends e-mailed me......he saw it on another Paksitani forum;

Quote:
I am giving 100% accurate information here according to sources close to Younis Khan. My family friend who knows the family from Pakistan and is very close.(I believe what I am about to say below has already been on breaking news on Espn and Geo..if not yet it will be in the next few hours)

Younis Khan has left the captaincy due to a haeted slection debate/discussion over the inclusion of Faisal Iqbal over Asim Kamal. Younis said that as he was going to be the captain he should have his say on selection. Well what happened was Younis was treated like dirt at the PCB offices and told that Faisal will remain in the side due to Inzis request. Younis replied that why is Inzi bhai picking Faisal when he wont be leading the team? As a captain(albeit a filler) why can't I have my way?(I totally agree with him on this). The PCB refused and that was the end of that. Inzi in paindu style put his leg in it.

Total paindu and awful behaviour from Inzi I hope he retires soon as he is stopping the development of a young and constructive Pakistan team.

The above is 100% true, I don't have copy or paste articles to give you nor can I give you audio link but it's the truth. For those who don't believe it it's up to you,I wont lose any sleep over it.
It has already been reported on ESPN......but why Inzi is going to be drug into this. Is YK wanted Asim Kamal, Bari/Shehryar Khan were going to select him - not Inzi.

I think, PCB is just putting blame on Inzi for Bari's actions.
