what is fascination with rooney?

the guy has some talent - but this is ridiculous, today ppl saying he belonged with the likes of pele, maradona, cruyff, platini and zidane! ***???? has the world gone insane. The boy has talent, but no way does he compare to these guys and nor will he ever be up there with them - a flat track bully if ever i saw one. Stupid motty and fellow bbc commentators - the boy is class etc - lets put things into perspective - IT WAS NORTHERN IRELAND, not italy with likes of nesta. What did he do against milan - he was in their pocket, nesta schooled him, am sure rooney will mature but if he is gonna be the next pele then can u imagine who ronaldinho will become?? the guy bamboozled chelsea, also did anyone see that winning goal he scored against milan? he went past gatusso, maldini and nesta!!!! has been class for brazil, won world cup and other things.

Dont get me wrong, the guy has talent but lets be realistic, he isnt in ronnyd's class and never will be, a good player he is but great? when he starts producing against top quality defences - then and only then can he be deemed world class

yeh thats true he is a class player but to be considered to the likes of pele hes got a lot of developing to do! These english people they buzz over evry little thing, some english commentators probably think heskey is the next ronaldo, the same goes with cricket they get happy over nothing! Look at what they were saying about owen couple years back look at him now hes ****!

i agree, it's ridiculous - like i told a few of my mates - brazil probably bring out 5 wayne rooneys or better players every year!

ronnyd is on another level i feel at the minute - he has picked his game up again!!! and he is the best player in the world

Rooney is a class player he did well for his country in the Euro 04 and for that deserves credit. His mouth and violence gets him into trouble alot of the time but this reflects on his game and passion to suceed, he's a top player who wants to develop his skills and for that he has come to one of the best sides in the world, he's a young, fresh talent which obviously commentators take advantage of he will improve if he has the determination and strength he wants to be the best and who can blame him?

has anyone here seen either andres iniesta or lionel messi play - both products of barca youth system - messi is an argie and both are supremely talented.

rooney is talented but ronnyd blows him away and would always do

Ferguson handed lifetime honour

Ferguson has managed more than 1,000 games at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has won a Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to football.
The 63-year-old Scot was honoured at the 2005 HMV Football Extravaganza in London on Tuesday and admitted he was delighted to receive the award.

"To be recognised for an award such as this is something to be proud of," said Ferguson at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

Ferguson follows the likes of Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton and Brian Clough to receive the honour.

Ferguson has won 16 major trophies at Old Trafford since joining the club in 1986 and this season celebrated 1,000 games in charge of United.

John Charles was the first person to win the Football Extravaganza award in 1997 and the most recent recipient was Kenny Dalglish, 12 months ago.

Freddy adu apparantly is like 20.His mum has said she doesnt know how old he is.When i saw him when he was 13 he looked much older and bigger then the other 13 yr old kids.About Rooney i agree he isnt a pele, zidane or maradona but he is a huge talent and if he is half as good as these guys then he will be a fantastic player.

I think will defintely be successful. The fact that his club captain is Roy Keane must also help.

He is the key to England's WC ambitions next year which I think and hope they will win

I agree.

Rooney is nothing special.

He does well against bad teams. He was rendered useless against France or Portugal, Spain. Whereas he does well against teams like Croatia and switzerland. He failed against AC Milan too.

United have wasted their 27 million on him.

he isnt in ronnyd's league and NEVER will be - i hate john motson - so biased it is unbelieveable - i laughed today when he said rooney plays ball out sportingly when rooney was so mad he booted the ball out and started swearing!!! the guy' famous gaffes include declaring davids average etc etc

i dont think he is as bad as you guys say he is, and united only paid £20 mill for him and i think thats a good price. The other £7mill was on stipulations like if united win the league they get an extra £2 etc
so basically they only gonna get £20 mill!
