Thanks Noddy bhai.

I am guessing....

Butt
Hafeez
Malik
Inzi
Yoyo
Kamran
Razzaq
Afridi
Sami
Arshad
Nazir

Though I would like to see Kamran open with Butt and Hafeez pushed down the order to 11

the only problem I see with this team is the batting of Mohammed Hafeez.

Other than that it looks a well balanced side. I think it will do well.

This is the team that should play: seeing as though Younis Khan is felling unwell he is most likely to be out(i think)

1. Salman Butt
2. Kamran Akmal
3. Shoaib Malik
4. Inzi
5. Yousuf Youhanna
6. Abdur Razzaq
7. Shahid Afridi
8. Mohammed Hafeez
9. Rana
10. Sami
11. Shahid Nazir

I would prefer Hafeez to bat lower down definitely. Probably at 6. And then if our top 5 last 35 overs, we can send in Razzaq, Afridi, and Akmal ahead of him to slog, and then hopefully he won't get a bat!!!!!

Arshad

Looks fine for now... When Rana and Younus are fit, they should replace Nazir and Hafeez/Arshad.

Keep an eye on how many overs the 6th bowler bowls... I have been saying we really don't need 6 bowlers... specially in India where ODIs are won and lost by batsmen... sacrificing a batsman for a bits and pieces player is stupidity.

Hafeez can make a case of being selected over Arshad as a specialist off spinner as he can at least claim to be better bat than Arshad .... as long as he bowls well in the first ODI...

But he needs to bat in lower order and NOT in top 4...

True Zorawar, but this from Cricinfo has made me think it might well be possible:
"and Inzamam-ul-Haq hinted that the idea of using Kamran Akmal as an opener would be discontinued, allowing Shahid Afridi to return to the position from which he caused so much damage in the Tests. "

DM i doubt Shahid will open. Its more likely going to be Kamran or Hafeez with Salman. It sould also mean Inzi and Yoyo hiding down the order again.

Noddy bhai, please could you wish the team all the best from all us here on Pakpassion.

They should have picked Arshad Khan or another seamer if they are going to have Hafeez bat down the order. NO point is picking him if he would be batting at 9 after razzaq and afridi.
If he is considered truly a good batsman he should open with Butt.

i think that the fact that inzi has said publicly so much that afridi is most likely to open is proof that this news has a lot of impetus. if the team had been very divided on this issue then they wouldn't have mentioned it publicly

I am yet to see any direct quotes of Inzi saying this.

I think it might be an Indian journalist just speculating as to the team he thinks we are going to pick.....and adds a bit extra to give his article more credibility. Journalists, expecially subcontinent ones, do it all the time.

I think they should use Afridi as a floating batsman. Just stick him in anywhere. His batting isnt affected by the game situation anyway so it would be an excellent mind game.

Imagine Pakistan are being held down and are off to a slow scoring start. The next batsman due in is Hafeez, India are elated to get a wicket and gladly to turn to await Hafeez who will slow the scoring rate when suddenly they see 'The Afridi' striding out with a huge grin on his face.

It would always change the complexion of a game and it would keep the opposition on its toes.

Mental disintregation at its best!

things could be worse......imagine if Hafeez and Wasti were opening tomorrow.

Or imagine a world xi with Hafeez and Wasti opening and Mark Richardson coming in at 3. Now they WOULD be less than 10 after 50 overs!

thats the team i have been informed about by the team...

Match day is yet to come, so it cud change.....

The wicket looked like it may favour some spin...Again that was yesterday when I looked at it.

Its a nice place here as well !

It would always change the complexion of a game and it would keep the opposition on its toes.

Mental disintregation at its best!
hehe id like to see that look on gangulies face

And Bangladesh too.. Alok Kapali would make a decent "all rounder" for our team.

He simply said its hard to believe bob on his word since he changes and chops very quickly. That's just a fact that he does that, not anyone's opinion. This might be mindgames or whatnot by Bob, no one is sa ying anything bad about him.

I think that you need the 6 bowlers especially when the temperature is 40 degrees and the pitch favours spin. So playing Hafeez is defendable as long as he is low down in the order.

However with Shahid and Arshad as 2 of the fron-line bowlers, I worry that we will get smacked around pretty good.
