Rapid talent
Aslaam Alaaykum,
Just watched a video over in the cricket clips section about some amazing bowling by young anwar al in last years under 19 cup against India. He was bowling massive bannaa inswingers which can only be described as phenomial! The other guy (left hander) think his name is jamshed was also bowling some sharp swing, the best thing is that the pace was rapid to say the least, it was like watching a young wasim and waqar! I am absolutly shell-shocked that these two youngsters arent already in our national team, they should be immediatly! Rana and Gul look nothing compared to these two, I could be just over-reacting or something but it was amazing bowling. Can you imagine our team with shoaib, asif, sami and anwar ali as a pace attack! We would be beating the auzzies within three days and wrapping up the world cup faster than the bloody Indians can say 'cheaters/ball tampers'! Shoaib and sami attack is deadly, shoaib and asif is also powerful and the this anwar/jamshid combo could also be a great asset for our team. What do you all think?

Great post till the name SAMI crept in!
I seen that match ur on about, he did look deadly. I dunno how he was swinging the ball in but he was swinging it miles. I think he's too young too be in the side, still needs a little time to develop. |

I had similar feeling after I watched the final of the U19 earlier this year. This has been discussed to length that the U19 bowlers (Anwar Ali, Ayub Aktar and Jamshed) all have the potential to play in the senior team and why are they not there yet?
Everyone thinks they are too young (between 18-20 now) and should not thrust into the team yet. I like you are hopeful that we will see them in next couple of years. You have to keep in mind that the U19 final pitch was favoring the seam bowling as well as the batsmen they were bowling to like them were only 17-19 yrs of age and not the caliber we see in the senior International circuit. Depsite that they are very very good prospect and i can't wait for them to play for pakistan. |

If we stick him in now and stick with him he can be groomed to be a world class performer, he has the pace, the swing and most importantly the passion.
The sami comment was also unnecessary, you find me a bowler who can match his speeds. Did you watch him bowl against the windies and todays domestic game. He needs this last shot in the pak team and thats it. He was back to his run-up and back to his rapid pace, he is back.

Sami is back? Was he ever here?
I would like nothing better than for Sami to go back to his full runup and fulfill his potential but 3 years after I began raving about him, I'm ready to pack it in. As for the u19 pacers well this is my verdict... Akhtar Ayub - He's ready to bowl for Pakistan already. He has the build, the speed (87-88mph at 19) and the nous to hack it at the top. Jamshed Ahmed - I thought he was the most promising of the 3 bowlers. Bowled some absolute peaches and has a decent speed of 85-87mph at 18 years old. Anwar Ali - Too raw and needs a few more variations. He can be deadly on helpful tracks but may struggle against more seasoned batsmen when there is nothing in the wicket. All 3 however look to be future first teamers!! |

These boys aren't ready physically or mentally ready for international cricket yet...i would hate to see a talent like Jamshed or A Ayub being wasted through an injury. Remember U Gul was 18 when he was drafted in the team and after playing for 8 or 9 months he was down with a stress fracture, M Zahid is another example of player who broke down because his body wasn't ready for international cricket.

About sami, time will tell. We have the SA tour coming soon and the world cup, its time for sami to prove himself inshaa'allaah.
As for anwar ali, his massive bannaa inwingers are phenominal without a doubt but the brothers raised a very good point that he needs some variety to add to his arsenal. If he has given a good run and under good leadership he can make it.

Sami is nearly back to his best, he bowled well against west indies, has bowled excellent in domestic and has bowled well in 20-20 (got 2 maidens in last match).
He has earned a place on the tour to SA. He is only 25 years old and arguably his best days are still ahead of him. At his best he is a matchwinner and on recent showings he is on the right path. Anwar Ali, Jamshed Ahmed and Akhtar Ayub are evidence that Pakistan bowlers are the most naturally talented in the world. As long as these three stay injury free and play regular domestic cricket I'm sure they will play for the senior side and help Pakistan win many matches in the future. I think all three should be introduced gradually after the 2007 WC. Ntini bowls good inswingers, but even his best don't compare to Anwar Ali's freaky inswingers in WC U19. |

Yes Jamshed is a copy of Akram, he even apeals and celebrates like Wasim. He bowled some nice balls not too much swing but excellent length with movement off the pitch was great to even make Wasim proud.
I would like to see all 3 of them in Pak A team next year and maybe senior team in 2008. |

lets not forget the following bowlers...
Mohammad Talha - According to Aaqib and the pace competition he was bowling around 86mph at 16 years of age! If he continues to get faster then watch out world!! Tanveer Zeeshan - Bob Woolmer confirmed that he was a 90mph bowler who needed to develop further! Who said Pakistani fast bowlers are a dying breed?? |

When I saw Bob I asked him about Tanveer Zeeshan, he said he wasnt quite yet a 90MPH bowler, maybe just trying to keep the hype down and pressure of him.

nothing exciting I saw him after Pak had played Scotland recently (few months back) and put a few questions to him while he was waiting to be interviewed by Sky, he said Zeeshan wasnt at the 90MPH mark at the minute

Shahid Yousuf is the batting talent at the moment on the domestic scene, its just a shame that he doesn't go on to make bigger scores. Ive noticed that he gets out a lot between 20-50. He needs to make bigger scores if he wants a place in that middle order for Pakistan.
